Re: New Macbook Air - A good gigging machine?

These benchmarks so far are rough guides. The only real benchmark we should all be interested in at this stage is to what level these things run Live 8.2.

The rest is personal preference.

More benchmarks:

Waiting for BTO configs. The OpenCL/Grand Central Dispatch support in Live 9 (please?!!) might be useful:

Re: New Macbook Air - A good gigging machine?

As far as size constraints for a performance there would be absolutely no difference between a 13" MBP and a 13" Air, and I'd really like to see a space where a 13" wouldn't work but an 11" would. In the UK DJ booths are perhaps not as big as US booths. I mean look at the size o...

Re: New Macbook Air - A good gigging machine?

The question is really can these handle 3 or 4 tracks with a few effects in a DJing environment in which space is very limited? An environment in which my 12" Powerbook excelled.

Re: New Macbook Air - A good gigging machine?

I think you might need the 4gb and 1.6Ghz upgrades.

Must be someone getting one of these. Waiting for sine feedback :)

Cant beleive that he uses PCDJ - PCDJ is a kids toy!!!! Greg Wilson would do better than that, He produced most of UK Electro i have spoken to him many times. I too have spoken to him many times (and have DJ'd on the same bill etc). And yes, he uses PCDJ last time I looked. He uses it in conjunctio...

I thought that level of control would have been nice in Live 7.

I won't start my usual rant of how Live has lost touch with it's performance roots :)

I use MidiStroke with Live 6.

I've seen reports it's slower. Which is a surprise.

UPgrade £35. Drive is £60, and you have a spare to put in a caddy.

You can also get 10000rpm SATA 2.5" laptop drives now - £200.

The optimum are the new 5400rpm 500GB at £100. Half a terabyte in a laptop!

The drives are so easy to replace yourself and are cheaper than Apple's upgrade prices. I'd get the standard one, try it and then upgrade if necessary.

The MBP HD used to be tricky to upgrade. This is no longer true with the new models.

New MBP has the suspect FW chipset. YMMV

Many of these USB2 interfaces will be fine for people who don't need to stream audio into Live in realtime (*cough* DJ's *cough*). *Out* of, not into surely. Most DJs just use a handful of channels for output (in fact mostly just two stereo). USB2 can cope with that surely as my old USB 1.1 maya44 ...
