I use 64XP with SP2, Live 7.0.1, M-Audio Fast Track Pro, UC33e. No crashes so far...

Fast Track Pro & Live 5.2 = never had any problems with performance.
Fast Track Pro & Live 6.* = clicks'n'pops, but it's a known issue. I tried it on a stronger machine, everything was perfect.
I had driver problems whatsoever. Few times I could not install that card with a certain version of XPSP2 ...

I'm not really sure about that iMic, but I can guess it will have bad sound.
But, I surely know that with Ableton you can use only 1 soundcard at the time. So, you'll need a soundcard with two stereo outputs.

Try to turn off page file (virtual memory: system properties/advanced/virtual memory). 2 GB of RAM should be enough; with page file turned on you'll have swaping on your HDD, which is surely the slowest part of your PC.
Else, don't plug more than one device onto 1 USB hub (because of power ...

I remember that track Holden&Thompson - Come to me was among first tracks I've warped. That song is everything but simple. It took me few days to do it, but I did it, and it worked perfectly.

Practise, man. You cannot expect to know warping without practise. One more advice: zoom your kick to max, and place marker at the position where change take place (the best position is ALWAYS where sound line crosses main/middle/zero line - in that way you won't have crackles at the start).

Hmmmm... I usualy use 5-10 markers per track. If track is not so rhytmicaly precise (kicks are differing in time, it happens with some songs), sometimes it takes much more markers. I use more than 10 markers only if that song is really-really great.

It depends on a song. Some songs are so correct, that you'll need only few markers, but some songs are almost imposible to warp. Usualy tracks I buy from beatport etc. need 2-3 markers for start, 2-3 at the end, and that's it.

Just would like to add that I still have problems with Live6&XP too (several months now - glitchin', popin' when launching clips or scenes), even when I tried all suggestions found here... Dunno if it's similar to your Vista problems, but at this moment I'm on Live 5.2 & XP, and everything ...

Dunno about mic-rec delays, but with H/W ... you could do few things with that. I would:
M-Audio to computer, outputs 1/2 and 3/4 from M-Audio to channels on mixer (in Live select ASIO drivers and after that route whatever channels you want from Live to outs 1/2 and 3/4 - I/O section), headphone ...
