Re: 4 db of dynamic range is the new norm
Looks fine on paper, but they obviously don't enforce it. actually they do, it's just not to the levels users would like. the fines are huge though. Good to know that they are finally enacting LAWS to cover this, rather than the broadcasters ineffectually urging content producers to regulate themse...

Re: 4 db of dynamic range is the new norm
It's much like the FCC setting limits on levels so broadcast shows and their commercial adverts are closer in volume. Looks fine on paper, but they obviously don't enforce it. ;-) Would be nice not to have to scramble for the TV remote in the middle of the night when those commercials come on that a...

Re: Ableton! Will Live 9 be released before year 2015?
I did the same: bought a new MPK61 on sale for $327 that had Live Lite 8 included with it, and then 3 months later took advantage of one of their upgrade sales and got the boxed version of Suite for $439. Wasn't too concerned about waiting for 9, as there is more than enough in 8 to keep a schmuck l...

Re: Export Audio => how to disable the audio during process?
Okay, now I kind of see what you guys are referring to.
I've never had to Freeze a track & such.
Exporting it doesn't do it, but Freezing & Recording to another track does.
Good to know, though I doubt it will affect me, as I use Ableton in more simple ways than most of you.
Carry on!

Re: Export Audio => how to disable the audio during process?
I'm confused (a normal state of being for me), but I have never had the song play while it's being rendered during exporting.
It just processes the the song in silence.
Zip, zoom, bada-bing, bada-boom.

Re: Mixing on Headphones
a GOOD mastering engineer knows the trade-offs between various speaker configurations and references and applies processing to make the best out of all worlds... (according to the desired release format) Corrected that for you. ;-) Mastering engineers come all kinds of flavors, and even some big na...

Re: Anyone here use Ableton for Rock/Indie??
I'm in the same boat. I just don't get into EDM, trance, etc, at all. I do some ambience stuff to go with soundtracks to video projects, and to create sound effects for those projects. But I mostly use Ableton to create Rock music ( Hard, Soft, Progressive, Metal, Alernative, Alt/Funk, Punk, etc ), ...

Re: noise when recording a vocal
This will be a really dumb question that in no way is meant to be snide: Do you have the mic turned 180-degrees from where it should be? (i.e. speaking into the back of the mic would necessitate cranking up the gain to hear anything) Only thing I could think of. Maybe someone else will have a better...

Re: unable to adjust buffer size
Check Chapter 11 of the PDF manual for the Fireface 400 ( http://www.rme-audio.de/download/fface400_e.pdf ). Use the Settings by clicking on the fire symbol in the System Tray (right side of your menu bar). You change the numbers in there, and it will change it in Ableton automatically (not sure if ...

Re: ableton rendering speed too low
That's anywhere from real-time speed to faster than real-time (presuming a 6 minute song?)
When you consider what all is being processed, that's not so bad.
