I would ask them about how much of their music is hardware (keyboards, mics, hard-wired effect racks) and how much is the Ableton software.

follow up... your project folders should not be deleted when you delete the program unless you did something slick with them. The defaults keep them safe.

Try this. Go to Ableton.com and d/l the latest version of Live 8, just the program, not all of your live packs or extra instruments if you have them.
