Anybody have any issues with Blue II vst and Live?

I just picked up Blue II and love it, but I'm having some compatibility issues with Live. My laptop was on its last leg, so I transferred all Ableton stuff to my desktop, installed 9.5 for the first time and purchased Blue II. It was working fine at first, and I started a few new projects. But after...

Re: Using Ableton Vocoder for Bass Sounds

The best I can suggest is to make sure your audio source for the vocoder really fills up the frequency spectrum first (assuming sub bass is already separate and filtered out of this part). Then divert the frequency bands in 2 or 3 different tracks. Process each separately and do your best to draw ou...

Re: Total newbie: Mixing/mixdown during writing

I can understand that, the past year or so I've felt like I cared more about making the best sounding production I can, more than making the best piece of music I can. Its good to create music that also has a good production quality, but it should be good music first. At this stage of the game for y...

Re: Total newbie: Mixing/mixdown during writing

Yeah, Tarekith's guides are awesome, helped me out a bunch! I typically do some mixing when in the writing process. I just like to get a better idea of what the song will shape up to be. I'm not saying that as a recommendation, its just something I do, good or bad. I've read interviews with some pre...

Short Circuit is definitely the best free vst sampler I've used.

Re: Short Med Long Reverb

Best to have them on separate sends. If you put them all on one track, you won't be able to use the long reverb on a snare, and the short reverb on a synth, for instance. Having each on a separate send will allow you to determine which instruments get which reverb, and how much is added.

Re: Future of Music/Ableton : innovation vs better beat-making

Digital instrument builders have been working making more expressive and responsive tools since the 80's. There's tons of examples out there. But they generally fizzle out pretty quickly because of lack of support from major players (Roland, Akai, Yamaha), and because of the demands of supporting e...

Re: Unexplained Volume and Tone Changes

If you maybe have a dusty old controller of some sort plugged in, that can be the culprit. Dust in the encoders will cause some ghost MIDI activity. Just spray it out with some canned air. But if it still happens and you don't have any controllers plugged in, I have no idea.

Re: Future of Music/Ableton : innovation vs better beat-making

I'd also love that kind of freedom of expression, but the problem is this is 2015, not 2035. Maybe some day we can use the conscious energy of our brains to generate and shape infinite sounds at will. But for now you have to prepare your work before you perform with anyone, be it audio files in a dr...

Re: Pros & cons of playing an instrument and knowing theory

I don't see ANY cons to learning an (any/every) instrument, or learning theory. Except the loss of mystery in music, perhaps. I do firmly believe that anyone can create any music in any way they like. But that being said, there's far too much music out there that's beautifully produced, yet has no b...

Re: New to music production - Where to start?

When you're starting out, it's really easy to compare your music to other artists. And you should do that, it's always going to help influence your creativity and give you a sound to work towards. But don't get down on yourself because its not as perfect or as loud as your favorite artists. Your mus...
