Get a devices chain selector setting through the API

Hi, I'm trying to make a device that will figure out which chain is active through the chain selector, but in my perusal of the LOM properties available I can't find anything that looks like the chain selector (or the currently selected chain). I can see the chains, and I can see through properties ...

getting into the python debugger from a remote script?

Hi folks, I thought I read somewhere once about someone managing to use socket communication to allow them to drop into pdb from with a live script. That would be *super handy* for debugging and writing them. Does anyone know anything about this voodoo magic?

thanks

has the Python API has changed for Live 9?

Hi folks, I have some remote scripts written and am wondering if anyone can tell me how much will need to be changed for live 9 from 8, and if so, if there is any guideline anywhere on porting.

thanks!

python question re button.set_identifier

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the .set_identifier method? Does the identifier need to be unique to that button or can multiple buttons share the same identifier? If it does need to be unique, can it be anything we want? Sparse lists ok?

thanks!

Re: I7 dual core vs quad core

I'm curious how the 50% faster figure was arrived at. Has anyone here done real benchmarks of the quad vs dual with Ableton or is this guestimation?

thanks!

which macbook pro best for heavy use live?

Hey folks, I'm wondering what actually performs better for running Abletone with a ton of external plugins at low latency

- dual core i7 2.9
- quad core i7 2.3

If the second, just how much better is it likely to be? trying to pick new laptop for audio.

Re: Python launchpad control surface script conks out randomnly

Awesome, thanks. I've been hunting for a decent example of a script doing all the right housekeeping but haven't found any. If you know of one, please share!

Thanks so much

Re: Python launchpad control surface script conks out randomnly

Thanks. I notice there are errors in the log, but I'm not sure which scripts they are from and they don't seem to have to do with what I'm trying in the script. I guess tomorrow I'll try turning off all other inputs and seeing if I can get the errors happening with nothing but that control surface r...

Python launchpad control surface script conks out randomnly

So, I have a python control surface script, which is working, but then just stops working, seeming randomnly, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. The details: - it's for using User 1 mode on the Launchpad - input into ableton is handled by setting the input for my script to be the OSX IAC...

Re: Who wants access to Ableton's Python API? .. You? .. Ok!

I saw a response in this thread that copied what sure looks like a Python interactive interpreter talking to the API and introspecting it. Can anyone tell me how this was accomplished? I seemingly can't just drop into pdb from a script, but I would LOVE to be in an interactive interprete. Thanks! iain

Re: How to add a callback to a button element in Python?

Thanks ST8, that's what I've since arrived at from looking at code samples, and wasn't sure if it was the right way to do thing in that the Button objects seem kind of extraneous, but if that's how it's done, so be it!

Thanks for the help, both of you.
