Get monitors. Take a couple of your favorite CDs to the store and listen to a few of them. Buy the ones you like best and go home and listen to a lot of music through them so you get a "feel" for them and what they're like. For instance, my monitors have a slight boost in the mids, I've learned and ...

I would use compression on the drums, distort them (you could use a tubeor tape saturator, but I'd go for something more wicked myself, like Ohmicide, but try any distortion you like) as well as lower the synths. If you want a heavier kick sound, try layering it with another kick and EQ them ...

This is the general recommendation for any DAW:
System drive: Applications and plug-ins.
Separate drive 1: Record to drive.
Separate drive 2: Sample libraries (including those installed with some plug-ins).

I only use two drives so the record drive and the sample drive is the same for me.

What you want to do is master it, or some of the mastering at least. And it includes what the previous poster have said about importing it into an editor. I however think you should leave proper headroom, around 6db at least. This gives you much more options in this stage. Remember, mixing is not ...

Funny this thread jumped up right now. The cold dark night I described has indeed come, I've sat down and made some music with Renoise and it is indeed capable of a whole lot of stuff. I would still suggest using Live though... But Renoise is cool, I in fact know a guy who lives of his music using ...

Not to sound like an ass... But use a compressor on whatever needs it and EQs or whatever on whatever needs it. Play around it, go wild and screw the rules. And finally, read up alot!

Seriously, without all the "you suck"....."no, you suck" crap, digi has pissed of some people in the mid/low market becuase you need a boatload of their stuff to run it. And the hardware isn't that great....hench, the ability to run protools (good) is always hindered by the no support/maudio-mbox ...

If you don't like it - don't buy it.
Well i did like it and I did buy it, a Digi001 card and Protools V5 when they were first released to be precise. Cost me $2000 aussie dollars. By version 6.4 they'd discontinued support of the 001 so it wont work with pro tools versions later than 6.4. Even ...

BFD is really good. I tend to use the Toontrack stuff more though simply because they're easier on the computer. Works good for what I do (write songs).
