Re: Trying to use Ableton to help compose simple songs...

One quick question: I recorded several passes at a simple 4-bar from my audio keyboard, and then dragged the clip's in/out markers to my preferred take -- but it doesn't loop quite right. Is the idea that I then ctrl-drag the warp markers that showed up in the clip, to tweak the timing (especially a...

Re: Trying to use Ableton to help compose simple songs...

create the first clip, select it, hold down alt and drag it to the slot below. You'll end up with a stack of four clips. Sorry, I'm not following -- alt-drag doesn't seem to do anything (fwiw, I'm using a PC) -- and ctrl-drag creates just one copy, so I'm not quite sure how you wound up with four? ...

Re: Trying to use Ableton to help compose simple songs...

I'd start it in session view. Create a four bar clip. Copy it (for the repeat). Copy again (rev, invert etc) and copy once again for bars 13-16. Set follow actions to taste. Thanks, when you say "copy it" do you mean within that one Session clip? Meaning, you play those 4 bars into a Sess...

Re: Trying to use Ableton to help compose simple songs...

Everyone who replies will say read the manual...it explains it all better than any of us can. Start in session view. I actually enjoy reading manuals -- but at 600 pages, I'm trying to figure out where to jump in. So to record, say, a simple blues pattern. that should start off in Session? When you...

Trying to use Ableton to help compose simple songs...

Hi all, I'm trying to use Ableton to help compose simple songs -- I mostly hope to record some keyboard, perhaps add some guitar or voice, and try to wind up with a song structure -- just for fun. I picked Ableton because the building block approach appealed to me -- but I seem to be having trouble ...

Re: 44KHz or 48KHz? (mostly for video playback)

[snip] And the 48 kHz? That is a copy protection. [snip] Thank you, that was brilliant info -- when I was thinking "this is annoying" it never occurred to me that it was annoying *by design*! To continue the conversation... 1) It seems most here prefer 48KHz -- but Live defaults to 44KHz ...

Re: 44KHz or 48KHz? (mostly for video playback)

If you want to support both CD and video output, would that be a reason to use 96KHz? Or is it fine to downsample from 48KHz to 44KHz. I assume it's not ideal to upsample from 44KHz to 48KHz, is that correct? So, for example, if you use CD audio within a video, it has to be upsampled? Does anybody h...

44KHz or 48KHz? (mostly for video playback)

Hi all, I'm working out my procedure to record some home music projects. I'll be shooting MP4 or MTS/AVCHD on my camera, and simultaneously recording audio in Live. I'll then use a video editor (Sony Movie Studio) to sync the audio from Live to the video from the camera -- and then I expect to rende...

Re: Is it just me? (regarding the Live 9 Grand Piano Pack)

It's certainly interesting that you got a similar result on your upright, but (imho) this sound just can't possibly be right/normal for a proper piano.

Proper way to uninstall a Pack in Live 9?

Hi all, My understanding is that in Live 8, to uninstall a Pack you were supposed to go to Preferences > Library and uninstall it from there. But that doesn't seem to exist in Live 9, and I can't find anything about uninstalling Packs in the Live 9 docs. Is there a proper way to uninstall a Pack in ...

Re: Is it just me? (regarding the Live 9 Grand Piano Pack)

Thanks for giving it a listen! Just to be sure, for the C two octaves below middle C -- it's not just an 'overtone' that you have to listen critically to pick out -- it's a glaring and odd sound, right? (at least for the "mellow" piano) I do hear other odd overtones on other notes -- but t...

Is it just me? (regarding the Live 9 Grand Piano Pack)

If you've installed the Grand Piano Pack, if you choose the "Mellow" piano (either "Equal" or "Stretch") -- do you hear a really wrong loud resonant sound when you hit the C two octaves below middle C? (it also seems to be present in the "Bright" piano, though...

Re: Quick question about installing/uninstalling Packs...

I just tried installing my first Pack. From what I remember of Live 8, to uninstall a Pack you would go to Preferences>Library and uninstall it from there. But that doesn't seem to be available in Live 9. I searched through the Live 9 manual, and couldn't seem to find it. To uninstall a Pack in Live...

Quick question about installing/uninstalling Packs...

Hi all, just before I start experimenting with installing Packs -- I gather I can uninstall them via the Preferences panel -- but if you uninstall a Pack, is all the stuff that came with it deleted? Or do I somehow need to keep track of what I'm also supposed to remove from the folders in the OS?

So if I uninstalled 8 before installing I, I can't have it anymore -- even if I download and install the standalone Packs that come with 9?
