You can also midi map or key map the record buttons so that when you active the button you actually arm one track but un-arm the other track at the same moment. To do that, map one record button turned on and the turned off at the same mapping time and they will then toggle back and forth between ...

We probably need to know a little more about your setup. Can I assume you have a piano instrument open in a midi track? Have you used either key or midi mapping on this set? I will assume the answer to both is yes...

Try changing your launch mode to "trigger." Sometimes gate will stop the clip when you let up on a control button sending both the down (start) and up (stop) signal to the program.
