Djing in live Recommendations

I use an Allen & Heath Xone:2D and an M-Audio X-session Pro for DJing with Ableton Live.
I use the Xone for the audio interface, monitoring, tempo tap, scene select (jog wheel), triggering clips (button section), introducing external sources (decks, mics, what ever else), I use the faders, pots and ...

After much research, I have decided upon the Allen & Heath Xone 2D. It will be arriving this week. Very exciting. I could find anything that came close.
The Vestax VCM-600 looks promising, but it may not be available until next year.
The Livid Ohm is also an interesting controller, unfortunately it ...

The ohm is a nice bit ok kit. It would be really nice for mixing your own compositions live.

I don't think it has enough pots or rotary encoders for my DJing style though.

After a lot of research, I believe the Allen & Heath Xone 2D ($US700) is the best for DJing at the moment (I imagine you don't want to drop 3K on a Xone 3d).

The Vestax VCM-600 looks primo, but it won't be available for a while yet.

At the end of the day it comes down to your own personal ...

I would rather spend my time on other skills such as creating mixes, playing samples, concentrating on measures, key matching, beat juggling, selecting tunes, playing with effects etc.

As an Ableton Live mixer, beatmatching is redundant. Thankyou 'Midi Clock'!

I am amazed by what I see some turntablists do with couple of decks and a mixer, but I have never really been interested in the technique of turntablism (i.e. I found beatmatching infuriating and I and did not have the drive to learn it). Also, a digital library is much is to manage.
I was more ...

I'd use Facebook with Last.FM and iLike linked to it. You need to create a personal account, then from there you can create a page for you act, where you can post pics, gigs, videos, tunes etc and people can become your "fan".

I also use Myspace. Hell, use them all if you want the best exposure ...

It all depends what you want to do. Live mixing of your own compositions, performing with live instruments, using it as a drum machine or DJing? Or combinations of all those options.

Many possibilities many solutions.

What do you want to use Ableton for?

Analogue or MIDI? MIDI allows you to record your mixing 'envelopes' so you can edit it later, good for creating a 'mixtape' or demo. If you just want to DJ live or record your set you can use any old analogue mixer. I prefer MIDI as it gives you more production options. They usually are cheaper too ...

I would have a set similar to what I was intending to play on a CD or Ipod and bus it into a channel on the mixer so I could bring it in at anytime.

Once I get a handle on more standard DJ mixing, I'll probably get into what you're doing.

I created this set up because I couldn't get a handle on 'standard DJ mixing'.
I read up on some music theory, and came up with a system that would allow me create really tight sets without knowing how to ...
