Dynamic Effects Automation Using Dummy Clips in Ableton 9

Here is a video tutorial about a feature in Live 9 that I've been really looking forward to- Clip Automation. I do a lot of performance using Ableton with live guitar, trumpet and vocals, so I love being able to have effects automatically switch and adjust as I am performing. In this video I perfor...

Re: Round robin simulator via velocity for triggering samples?

Looks easy enough to switch that patch over to velocity. Personally, I try to stay away from mfl as much as possible. For me, Really adds alot of weight to sets. Why dont you just use the random device? set random control to like 5-10 or something. MIke Thanks Mike, you're probably right. I just ge...

Round robin simulator via velocity for triggering samples?

I'm doing some drum sequencing using a Quneo and despite my best efforts to get a good velocity curve and using drums with many levels, I'm still getting awful repeats. I was thinking it would be cool to have a device that receives the note and velocity, but ensures that the same velocity doesn't go...

Re: momentary buttons device - is it possible?

Course not. I mean, you can probably determine, what kind of MIDI data you want to transmit. The keyboard will obviously transmit notes (pitch, velocity), and the pads can either transmit CC, PC or note messages. And it can happen (like on my FCB) that CC has no momentary mode. And that's why I sol...

Re: momentary buttons device - is it possible?

Can you configure the pads to output notes aswell? I ask this because I use a FCB1010 footpedal and the only way for momentary behaviour is with notes. If I output CCs, they will alternate between 2 values. Not sure what you mean, can you rephrase? Are you saying you want to convert the data coming...

Re: momentary buttons device - is it possible?

I have an Axiom 25 keyboard with no momentary pad setting. I would like to have a max for live device instead of an external software workaround. Is it difficult to program? Well all I can offer is my experience- I have created some pretty advanced devices in Max for Live but I haven't been able to...

Re: momentary buttons device - is it possible?

It is possible, but having looked at it from many different angles, I would recommend either using midipipe as described in this video (or another midi translator if you're on a PC- there are tons of workarounds, just search the main Ableton forums for "momentary"). Are you not using a con...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

Send/receive is okay for sending single messages that are not overly reliant on accuracy, but they are not very stable at communicating streams of data between M4L patches in my opinion - I would presume that is why you are getting overloads. udpsend/udpreceive doesn't work that much differently th...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

Very cool! trying it out now. I see that the map button and patch have a line through so I'm guessing I may be missing those files which would explain why the map function is not working. I will double check that and let you know how it goes :) Hmmm, nope that seems to be embedded. What about the j...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

I had a look and because the maxuino device is using the serial port, there doesn't seem to be any way to communicate with it as there's no port number I can find. However, this device is based on a kind of multi LFO I had created ages ago where I wanted to assign the same LFO to several parameters...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

Well I made some headway- got the basic concept of the VU meter working but it's pretty kludgy and it's killing my RAM. I'm using this device to listen to three bands of audio: http://www.exaltron.com/images/listener.png Then I use three separate devices hacked from a Device LFO to format the receiv...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

Here's how I did something similar. You'd just replace the send object with midi CC stuff. Also see qlim for rate limiting. <pre><code> ----------begin_max5_patcher---------- 842.3oc4Xt0aaBCE.9YxuBKdbJKx1.gvdqScSZRQqRSSZOTUMQ.mTWAlLrSW 2pZ9sOiMDfFHgjR65kWfXyw1G+4yMmaGXXNK4FB2D7Av4.CiaGXXn5JqCi71 Fl...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

I would probably consider sending OSC data rather than midi as I've done it in the past for vu meters and it worked really well without breaking Live - doesn't seem to cause much bottleneck at all. You could try downsampling the audio signal (using the downsamp~ object) or a snapshot~ object could ...

Re: Trying to create a VU meter that sends midi CC (audio>midi)

snapshot~ ? I will post a snapshot but I think there's something missing now- I thought I had it working but it may have been an automation clip that was driving the LEDs. Can't reproduce it now :( I can see that the cc data is coming through to the audio track but it doesn't seem like Live can rec...
