Yes, I am suggesting ableton do nothing fancier than make their sets behave like a shared document. Then it's up to the artist to decide whether to share over LAN, google drive, Dropbox, or some other means.

It could even be like a game where someone hosts it and another artist "joins" the live set ...

We also used to share our documents on DropBox, and it functions essentially the same.

I think a lot of artists in the electronic music genre like to collaborate, and I think Ableton Live appeals more to this crowd than any other demographic.

I am using Kontakt as a sampler for a VI called LASS - its strings basically.

The thing is, for LASS the velocity is basically controlled by the mod wheel, and I have a quartet, and each are set to their own MIDI channel (1-4). I want the violins to get loud and the violas to get soft, so I have to ...

does anyone know of a third party program that can do this? I really am finding it difficult to program the drums with Battery when I dont know what note corresponds to what pad.

I would mostly be using it for Piano and occasional strings. How does it stack up against other Piano plugins? The voice quality of the piano is very central to my music, so is this one quality? or should I look elsewhere?

so if I got this midi note renamer, I'd have to make a different version for every drum kit I use? It seems like through programming, it would be so easy to port the names of the cells that occupy certain notes right into the ableton midi note namer.

what if I just open battery as a "previewer" of its sounds, and once I have the sounds I like, i just import the wav/aiffs to impulse? does impulse alter the sounds or anything? I think that might be one workaround.
