I have platinum Quantum leap orchestra

I've been very happy with the platinum orchestra. It sounds real (provided you use the samples tastefully).

I've actually used live to compose large orchestral pieces.
The only probs I have is that live only allows me to access 16 channels of the kontakt plugin which drives the samples.

Confused about track delay functionality

OK.
I've been using live for a while now but just started trying to use track delays yesterday.
I have a few midi tracks I'm attempting to delay by 90ms or so (I do all my work in arrangement view).
Sometimes when I punch in the delay value, the little arrow to the right of the value turns red ...

try...

try increasing the size of your audio buffers under
prefs/latency/buffersize

turning off dual cpu support.

also it might be a problem with your audio interface using a bus that is being shared by other periferals.

reminder though to all you firebox users. Make sure the firebox is the ONLY thing connected via firewire. Otherwise you are going to get clicks n pops.

Are you sure?

For me yes : Trying to put anything more than the firebox on the firewire bus gives me pops and clicks, regardless of ...

OK. everyone.
Since turning off multi-cpu support I am still 100% problem free using the firebox.

So I really haven't given it much thought anymore. Just a reminder though to all you firebox users. Make sure the ...

this would be nice.
wonder if racks can do it?

Nope. Can't be done. It would be nice if you could use midi racks to do real time midi routing. I contacted ableton about it and got this response:

Nope
I´m afraid there´s no workaround, you´d need to spread the MIDI
tracks
in Live´s current ...

Re: Rack Improvements (use midi rack for ROUTING)

Use midi-rack chain selectors to rout midi data directly to different midi channels of a plug-in.

Note that this solves the current problem of being unable to confine a multi-channel midi performance to one track.

For example:

Multi-channel midi on one track needed for film scoring.

I wish I could keep multi-channel midi data confined to one track.

PROBLEM THIS SOLVES:
I am attempting to use Ableton for film scoring.
I use the eastwest orchestral plugins which are used
as follows:
Each instrument in the orchestra has many
articulations (staccato, double tongue etc..). To ...

just create 2 midi tracks,1st track with the vst & then route midi from the second track to the 1st using the Midi To option on the second track,a new drop down will appear below that which will allow you to choose which channel to route to.

Now input on either tracks will trigger the right ...

OK.
I created a midi fx rack with a chain selector that I can now control from the keyboard. I've got a multichannel midi instrument on its own track.

How can I now guide the midi events from each chain into separate channels on the plugin track?

Am I going about things the wrong way here ...

Had exact same noob problem and this was the mistake.

longjohns wrote:To me it sounds like you do not have the box "Remote" enabled for the keyboard in the MIDI preferences. You need "remote" to do control assignments. You need "track" to play instruments.
This was my mistake too! Thanks!

Thanks I will give this a shot and report back!
