Re: MOTU ultralite vs. Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1
I'd like to let the Profire get proven out in the wild before calling it a step up from MOTU's converters, and before I believe that it is some big leap forward in stability. My experiences with the MAudio external units was very frustrating, and MOTU has won me over with a big upgrade in sonics and...

Re: MOTU ultralite vs. Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1
I used the AK1 sine right around it's release and I also use a MOTU 896HD as my main interface. The AK1 can be a really nice solution to portable DJ/Live work. The monitor/main setup is excellent, the dial and buttons can be programmed to Live functions, the sound quality is OK, and it works great o...

Re: name one professional
Live is best for... Live! Huge artists use it as a sequencer because they are not obliged to follow the chart night after night. For a main DAW, there are too many better softwares out there. thank you lapieuvre...you are the only one that gave me a straight answer. why it took over 120 posts to ge...

Re: Live as a profesional DAW
Heavily editied: ... Live is lacking in some features which make it an optimal across the board DAW. This such as *limited dual monitor support *Audio editing *No native 5.1 surround support *Advanced MIDI editing I have been using Live as my only DAW for two years now. Not only will I continue to u...

I do a lot of work in arrangement view, mainly compositing or dubbing parts using scratch/draft arrangements as a guide. But session view is a useful tool if you can take a modular approach to your work. You can have several drum part variations, guitar, banjo... whatever, and then switch between th...

I use an AK1 as my portable/live interface. The inputs are good enough, but all you get are the pair on the front panel. That is a mic/line and a line/inst. Wish they coulda put a second mic pre on it, but it works fine as is. No rear-mounted RCA's on the back. Not a deal breaker, just mentioning it...

Logic Express is Logic lite. In comparison to the Ableton line, GB is Lite, Express is LE, and Suite is Studio. Lite is basically the freebie version, very limited but compatible, and you can do constructive work in it if you dig a little. FWIW, GB is a great app for doing quick video/audio dubs by...

It is definitely the case that the GB instruments have a lot of effects included in their settings. It isn't just an instrument sound. They have compression, chorus, reverb... already enabled in the patch. I'd consider them to be more like pre-designed sounds than bare instruments. They are also CPU...

If your loops are not warped, or they don't have a tempo setting in the header (premade loops with tempo data like Apple Loops or Acid Loops, etc...), then they will just run free and not sync to your project. If the loops are steady in tempo, then turn on warping for the clip and then adjust the te...

Re: a question for bass players!
I am totally sick of changing 9 volt batteries for my active pickups. Does anyone have experience with both actives and passives, and is there really a disadvantage to using passive pickups? How often are you changing batteries, what kind of bass, and what is the preamp? You could have a short in t...

No problem on the ideas. What I don't have is solutions! First, I am a bass player, I use a lot of looping, and I use Ableton. So far as I have seen, and I spend more time looking than I should, nobody has a easy solution to the real-time looping problem. You have to have a set tempo first in Ableto...

A few suggestions: You can beatmatch by synching the click to the drummer before firing the clip. If the clip is warped, or has tempo set, then Live will adjust tempo. Having a dedicated monitor out, and being sure not to send the click to the FOH is JOB ONE. Get it synched and then rock the crossfa...
