This would fit nicely in a dedicated mix view that would show all channel inserts. Just cmd-click on desired channels and drag/insert an effect to one of them and you get visual confirmation instantly.

I would love to have a mix view with all channel inserts visible at the same time, like in the above Logic example. Would help me with getting an overview of my mix processing and I would have a one click access to open/bypass any channels compressor/eq/effect.

And I don't really use first party ...

Is the LCD clearly visible at a low (like below 45 degrees) angle?

On my microKontrol the LCD is only visible when looking almost straight down and it makes it nearly unusable when it's in front of me on my desk.
