Pay close attention to the 'depth' control and the 'enhance' button. They are not there just to sound fancy in writing or to fill a void in the GUI layout, but instead make sure you can get a good clear sound from modulators & carriers where an ordinary vocoder wouldn't let you.

as for the sample, there's always the possibility that it wasn't sampled at all but rather performed by members of the band themselves. after all, me and timmy got to know each other by both impersonating timmy from south park at a music festival camp ...

I dare anyone to figure out exactly which edition of street fighter was sampled, hehe...

Our debut album named "2080" is out now on CD & digital. I reckon it could be interesting for you guys to hear what kind of music some of us at abe HQ is doing, and it's quite heavy on warper abuse and live-isms too. Besides just being generally brilliant of course..

The slow recovery has to be due to the parameter smoothing afaics.

I don't think it makes much sense to compare ss/tension with a Karplus-Strong implementation since they're quite different. I asked their programmer about it and although he didn't recall the exact details why it was bounded in this ...

I asked AAS about this issue and they confirmed that it's a limitation of the physical model. The pitch can only be bent up by a certain amount above the initial pitch, so while pitching down always work the range of pitching up that's available is limited for notes that are already playing.

It looks like a GUI resource file of your Live install is broken, it should never look like that. Try reinstalling Live.

Make sure the Hi-Q option for the button is set. This will reduce the amount of buzziness caused by the sample rate conversion, especially if you're using Live 7 in which the quality of this conversion has been improved a lot.
