Re: Is Serato really not a good option for a new DJ?

Serato used to be a club standard a few years back but the development of Scratch Live has been very slow lately and it has lost some of that position. There has been some hype though about some future updates but I don't believe anything until I see it. During the last year Serato has focused more ...

Re: Learning to DJ: what software?

@102455 Pointless to argue about these things. I'm not exactly bashing VDJ here but merely stating that by general opinion in the DJ community Serato and Traktor are more "professional" and more likely to be seen in clubs or festivals. These two software developers also have more big name ...

Re: Learning to DJ: what software?

You base your assessment of DJs skill levels on YouTube videos? You use YouTube videos to determine who's an "experienced DJ"? Give me a break! Generally DJs that have more name have more videos on YouTube also. And generally Software used by pros is advertised by videos with pro DJs. Cle...

Re: Learning to DJ: what software?

Says who? I'm an experienced DJ. I mainly use VDJ, but I also have Traktor. Go to YouTube and type in the search field first Traktor DJ, then Serato and then Virtual DJ. Watch the first 10 videos of each and then tell me about the skill level of the DJs in those videos. VDJ has waveforms too. They ...

Re: Learning to DJ: what software?

I'm not saying VDJ is a bad software. Having used it myself my first year of DJing I think it's pretty good for learning the basics and it has a nice clear UI. However there is a reason why experienced software DJs use only either Traktor or Serato. When you switch from VDJ to Serato DJ you will ins...

Re: Learning to DJ: what software?

Look into Serato DJ also. With a good controller I think it's a good way to learn the fundamentals of DJing. Traktor has most features but some prefer Serato workflow and sticking with the basics. Virtual DJ cannot really compete with those 2.

Re: Workflow with drums?

Thanks for the tips! I didn't know you could separate different drum sounds from a large drum rack into their own channels. This certainly helped my workflow. Thing is that I have a basic understanding of drum processing as I've read Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio by Mike Senior and a lot of co...

Workflow with drums?

Hey all, I'm a starting producer and currently my biggest obstacle is getting a smooth workflow with drum programming. I'm hoping to get some advice here to get me on the right track. These are my two main questions: 1. One channel for drums vs. multiple channels / Which Instrument to use With Live,...

Launchkey or Impulse for first keyboard?

Hey, I just got Ableton Suite 8 and I'm looking to buy a midi keyboard. I was originally looking at Korg Microkey 37 but then decided that maybe I'll just get a normal size 49 key keyboard right away rather than end up having to upgrade at some point. I'm looking at Novation's offerings mainly becau...

Re: Would you experts recommend this setup for my needs?

Thanks for tips. I will continue searching for the right keyboard. Thing is that I don't have much space on my desk so I think I'm gonna have to settle to some kind of smaller compromise keyboard or maybe something "mid-size" if there is such a thing.

Would you experts recommend this setup for my needs?

Hi all, I'm finally getting into producing and would like to make sure at the beginning that I'm starting with the right equipment and software. I have a background in DJing which I have done for 3 years now. I've had many kinds of gear during that time but I have most enjoyed my current setup which...
