Send midi to audio track

Trying to use dummy clips to have quantized enabling and disabling of spealer on tracks and effect rack chains, I was surprised to see that there is no way in live to send the midi to the track. I only see a couple of plugins inside racks as available destinations. Would be nice not having to use a ...

Fix browser rank feature

When DJ'ing with Live I sometimes play very long sets, and one feature I missed from Traktor is the ability to see what songs I already played. With Live 9 I thought that the new rank feature would be a way to easily see what tracks has been played, and even better, sort played tracks away at the bo...

Re: Ableton for music production. PC vs Mac

One also have to keep in mind that with PC you have very varying quality depending on which machine you choose. Nowadays a Mac is a PC if you look at the hardware, but it is high-end machines using quality components. I know many people that think that they need for example a Core 2 Duo with 2.0GHz+...

Re: Features you would like to see in Ableton 9?

The one thing I'm really missing is the possibility to have follow actions that is based on position in the clip rather when the clip was triggered.
Then I could split up a track in sections and still use looping.

Re: Mixing at -17dB is this bad?

Since Live uses a floating point engine you will not loose resolution if you have the faders on the channels too low and instead boost the master. So if the signal at the master hovers at -17 dB you can just pull the master fader up. I guess the mastering engineer mentioned is thinking about fixed b...

Re: Leveling for Playing Out - What do YOU do ?

i suppose i should have been more specific...i'm playing originals , not mastered as such , just fresh out of Abes... You seemed specific when you said "Can anyone suggest a good way to get the levels going into the mixer up there with a Mastered CD ?" I would put a multi-band comp...

Re: Leveling for Playing Out - What do YOU do ?

I don't carry anything on my master channel for live playing, i just make sure my set doesnt clip in the master, set the PA at the right levels and off i go. +1 Using a limiter on the master can be a bad idea since, unless you play unmastered demos, tracks will already have a limiter applied, and o...

Re: Spindrift Mouseless SmartX Control

I have uploaded a zip with some updates: http://www.resonantearth.com/misc/smartx/SmartX_1.1.zip It contains a version with new crossovers as well as the Live 7 version and an updated AHK script, but there is some things that might not work out. The method of creating a crossover used in the old ver...

Re: balanced or unbalanced wiring?

The fact of the matter is a pro studio is gonna have quite a bit of balanced cables being run all over the place. If you understand how a balanced cable phase cancels noise there would be no way you could argue that it's a bad idea. There are certainly arguments against balanced cabling, and you wi...

Re: djing with live question

Having a limiter on the master can be nice to be sure that it will not clip, but IMO you should try to avoid it being in use and just reduce your levels instead. Probably the tracks you play is mastered and hence already limited, and the PA will have a limiter in place as well. Limiting tracks three...

Re: converting audio files to binary, ascii or hex?

I'm trying to figure out a way to represent the sound data in a color scheme. First I'm just trying to create numerical data from the audio file and see if I can arbitrarily compile a graphics file out of it. but you guys are all speaking japanese. I can't even figure out how to strip the header mu...

On that list I would go for the Focals, but I'm not familiar with the ks-digital.
I would also check the Tannoy precisions.

Re:

+1 since a few months i'm using live also for djing. then i could split the tracks into several parts. it's senseless for me to measure the time from start to stop, because this time is variable, when i'm working whit loops inside the track. Exactly! There is just no sensible way to divide a track ...

Re: Looping a La Richie Hawtin

I use an AutoHotKey script to create macros to be able to set a loop of predefined length, move loop position and move start and end. Here is a pic with the loop controls: http://www.resonantearth.com/misc/G100_loop.png Start loop defaults to a loop length defined in the AHK script. This code will m...
