Collab?

I live in a small city (relatively speaking) so the pool of like-minded musicians with whom I can work is unfortunately rather small. Was wondering if anyone out there in interweb land would be interested in collaborating on some tunes remotely? In terms of genres I'm all over the place, so no doubt...

Re: drum rack/loss of sound quality??!

Can you define "loss of sound quality"? The default Simpler preset for Drum Racks is a bit illogical--the release time is quite short, the Volume is -12db, and the "Vel" (Velocity sensitivity) is set to 0%. In other words, your sample is likely playing at a much lower level than you'd like, and pote...

Re: Any way to lock return track envelopes to clips?

You need to select the clips as well as the return automation. If you've got other tracks in your project but only want to move the flugelhorn tracks then you'll want to drag them to the very bottom of the arrangement view, as close as possible to the return track (you'll see why when you try!) Real...

You should review the limitations for your version of Live. Maybe it's not the right version for you!

Re: Live suddenly ceases to receive MIDI from controller

You don't actually have to restart Live if a MIDI controller loses connection, you just need to unclick and reclick the selections in the Track/Sync/Remote area of the preferences and it will come back. However the controller has to be connected while starting Live 9, at the very least, or else it ...

Re: Why cant i group tracks in ableton

From http://en.wikiaudio.org/Ableton_Live:Group_tracks: You can group tracks in Ableton Live by selecting the tracks you wish to group (Hold down Shift), right clicking (or CTRL clicking) and selecting Group Tracks from the pop up menu. (alternatively, you can press CTRL+G to group selected tracks) ...

It's still there in Live 9 beta 59 so it's probably sticking around :)

Re: Working on multiple projects at a time vs. just one?

Hmmm, interesting - I thought everybody did their fills/risers and automation before their mix down. Yeah that's probably much more typical! I should clarify: I generally have some of this stuff worked out early on but I find you can never have enough and so I tend to treat these as "finishing task...

Re: Working on multiple projects at a time vs. just one?

I think it's a very personal thing and what works for one person won't necessarily work for anyone else. Personally , I like to "finish" (or close to it) a track in 2 or 3 sessions. Usually it goes something like this: sound design, programming, writing (usually in Session view) rough arrangement, r...

Re: Control vocal peaks and dips

When working with vocals I generally start by increasing or decreasing the level of my vocal clips relative to one another, to get a good baseline consistency. If there's a specific phrase that's quieter than everything else then I will "slice it" out of the bigger clip and adjust that clip's volume...

Re: Live suddenly ceases to receive MIDI from controller

I had this happen in the middle of a live set. Had to end it prematurely :( In my case I think it's because I was overloading the USB bus, though, as I had a couple "high-bandwidth" devices connected to the same bus. Are you powering your controller through USB, or are you using the adapter? If it o...

Re: How Can I Use a Foot Pedal for Note Hold/Sustain?

I'm not too familiar with the APC40, but assuming the MIDI message for the foot switch is "hard-wired", as the poster above mentioned, then you could use Bome's MIDI translator to convert that note to CC64: http://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator

Re: Using single foot pedal to trigger successive loops?

I do something similar where I cycle through scenes by assigning a foot switch to the "Scene down" action, although in my case the scenes are collections of clips. If you only want to trigger clips in one track then you can simply remove the stop buttons (right click the slot -> Remove Stop Button) ...

Re: Loading Sets From Hardware

Ideally what I really want to do is load whole ableton sets/projects from hardware, not have lots of songs playing in one set. I like to have samples loaded in ram, so I can see your approach making my machine run out of ram by the 3rd 4th song. Each song will have around 8 tracks (So for example I...
