You just have presets and then 2 knobs, Pan and volume, and a knob for master reverb and a little EQ I think.

Yup I don't think Gen16 cymbals must be used like real cymbals, it's just another instrument. I think that on e-drums too, can't replace an acoustic kit and that's why if I had to, i'd be using it in a totally different way than real drums.

Yep - I use Ableton Live.

I trigger midi but mainly record directly into Live. Yamaha DXT 550 with Zildjian Gen 16.
