having to open the plugins with the mouse the first time...

Command Alt P for hiding and showing the plugin doesn't work directly when I load Ableton. I have to first open my plugin with the mouse befor I can use the shortcut. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.hostingpics.net" title="Hebergeur d'image"><img src="http://im...

gain reduction in DB on the ableton comrpessor

Hi all,

Wondering if it's possible to read the amount of gain reduction in Dbs on that ableton compressor ?
Unfortunately the gain reduction meter is not incremented.

Re: Help on ableton meters...

the whole loudness thing is actually more complicated than you might expect. loudness itself is actually a psychoacoustic phenomenon that has no objective measurement. there is not even scientific agreement on whether a -6 dB or -10 dB drop in signal level corresponds to an experience of half the l...

understanding the compressor threshold

Hi all, In the example below, I have set my threshold to -27 dB. As you can se with these extreme settings, (smallest attack time and infinite ratio), my compressor is supposed to be able to attenuate my signal to meet the threshold. Yet my output signal peaks at -18 db on my fader ? I would say it ...

Re: Help on ableton meters...

Bonus question : On the Ableton meter, there is a green dash and a green bar. The dash represents peak level and the bar RMS level right ? Which Live version are you using? Before Live 9.5 there was no indication of RMS, it was just the bar for the momentary peak and the dash for a peak hold (no id...

Re: Help on ableton meters...

I am so baffled 8O This is the unfortunate side-effect of the term decibel being used in different standards and scales I think. Long story short, acoustically a 6dB reduction tends to equal half of perceived loudness. In your DAW though, it's a measure of peak digital values, and has a scale where...

Re: Help on ableton meters...

6dB represents half the voltage of a signal, yes. Psychoacoustically, 10dB is the half. But for faders, nearly no DAW puts -6dB half the way. For waveform displays, that's another story. Do you mean that the human brain will perceive a sound at 80dbSBPL to be twice as loud as a sound at 70 dBSPL ? ...

I think that I am mixing up the levels as seen on a waveform, and the levels seen on the faders ?

Re: Help on ableton meters...

WHy do you think -6dB is half the signal? With a 24 bit signal, you have 144dB of dynamic range, much more with 32bit. From what I understand from the experiment I made (look at the screenshots) : When I lower the level of my signal by 6dbFs, the level is divided by half. That would mean that the c...

Help on ableton meters...

I don't understand why the -6 db mark isint in the middle of the ableton meter since it represents a signal at 50 percent of the max value ? Also for example, when the needle of the glue compressor moves by 6 db, am I dividing my signal level by half ? I know there is something major I am missing ou...

Re: recording in arrangement view "spilling out"

Many thanks Actually I figured the "artifact" at the beginning of the clip as below (corresponding to the time I take to hit the stop button once I'm done) doesn't appear with midi overdub, just with audio (because audio doesn't overdub obviously). http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_...

recording in arrangement view "spilling out"

Hi all, Sorry to bother you with this question... When recording in arrangement view, I always have my clip length spill out after I hit the spacebar. Like it the images here : http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_137421Capturedcran20151016091250.png http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_9068...

sorry I figured out the shortcut problem.
But it there a way to set default 16th notes grid when I create a new midi clip ?
