Strange issue with record arming tracks on new mac
So I just got a new mac mini (late 2012 i7 2.3) to replace my aging late 2009 mini. I used migration assistant via firewire to set up the new mac exactly as the old one was. Everything seemed to go fine. However, when I open any project that I keep on my Lacie external fw drive (which is where I sto...

Re: Advice on running Ableton and Protools on mac mini
Solid advice, Hacktheplanet - thank you! I just read up on KVM switches and this indeed seems like the easiest way forward.

Advice on running Ableton and Protools on mac mini
This isn't really a question precisely aimed at the Ableton forum, but I thought I'd take a shot at getting some general computer advice from the knowledge base here... So I just picked up a late 2012 mac mini (i7 2.3 quad) to replace my rapidly aging late 2009 mac mini. I do 90% of my DAW work in a...

Re: Launching of complex sequences automatically - or easily..!
Right?!! The IAC midi bus trick leaves endless possibilities. And you can stay in arrangement where you're comfortable. I came about this backwards, thought I wanted/needed to be in Session for live performance but switched to arrangement because I was having hard disk overloads. And then I discover...

Re: Launching of complex sequences automatically - or easily..!
Finally a question where I may for once be a bit of help. I've been sorting through these same questions for some time now and have finally come to a workflow that is solid and easy. This involved a switch from session view to arrangement. So like 3dot was saying, you want to do this all in one larg...

running a liveset in mono
This is really basic.... So I have a large ableton project, essentially backing tracking tracks for my band for live performance, comprised of some drum machine bits, some keys, a few odds and ends. Many of these tracks are stereo, and a few take advantage of panning automation. But as performance t...

Re: Best workflow for editing audio sample externally
I think I've figured out that this can't be done the way Live intended it within Audacity. Audacity doesn't allow for a simple saving of the edited file; your only options are to save it in in its proprietary format (not WAV) or export the sample, but then you're stuck putting it in the project fold...

Re: Best workflow for editing audio sample externally
Thanks, fishmonkey - that's what I'm talking about. I downloaded Audacity (free and has what I need) and am almost there. But where do you save the sample so that it'll populate in Ableton? Back into the ableton audio folder with the original sample?

Best workflow for editing audio sample externally
I've got a few clips in my set that I'd like to EQ destructively, i.e., I don't want to run plugins to cut the high frequencies I want to get rid of. I've got Digital Performer (which I can't stand) and Protools and tried to set these up as my external sample editor, but it doesn't seem to work. I g...

Re: question re: routing in Ableton for live vocal effects
So I got an ART mic splitter and have been experimenting with this setup: Vocal mic > splitter > mixing board (dry vocal); other side of splitter > apogee duet input > ableton fx > duet out > mixing board (wet vocal) So I have my fx chain in Ableton set to mute when there's nothing going on fx-wise,...
