Thanks again for your reply. In this meantime I've been trying several approaches with no results. Just got my Zoom H1 recorder to work as an usb mic/interface with Asio drivers... the tablet turns out to be an awesome tool for music. Too bad i could not solve this issue, i'm working with Reaper ...

then this might be a weird permissions issue. as in Live (or the logged on user) does not have full rights to the location that the temp files are being saved.

...however that made me think about another test - i connected a USB external hard drive, and recording to that hard drive worked fine! So there's this new clue.
An external pen drive also works. But the internal SSD drive or the microSD memory card don't.

I just got my hands on a Dell Latitude 10 Tablet. I installed Ableton Live 9 demo on it, hoping to see how would it perform in such a limited machine, CPU-wise.
