Re: Beginners Advice - What Equipment Do I Need?
I agree with the previous post. Get an audio interface. I'd recommend the M-Audio Fast Track. It's inexpensive, and it gives you a 1/4" in for a guitar and an XLR input if you get a condenser microphone. Take a look at the Line 6 POD studio if you just want to record guitar direct in.

Re: Sidechain always selecting the same channel?
Set up a return track to handle all of your sidechaining. That way, it's audio in is alway set to the kick you want. Send any track you want to be sidechained and set its output to SENDS ONLY. You can even send another return track to do this. Here's a pseudo template: http://local.twitpicproxy.com/...

Re: Can I some how use multiple audio inputs in live?
Your firepod inputs are being rendered useless by maschine. You need to figure out a way to run maschine into ableton without using soundflower. You can rewire Reason into ableton using it's native buses; you may be able to do this with maschine also. It looks like this. http://local.twitpicproxy.co...

Re: advice
I reinstall my OS every 4 months or so. If all your sets are in self contained folders, then you shouldn't have a problem. I would recommend just manually backing everything up rather than just hoping for the best.

On your midi mapping, you have min and max values. Set your max to -1.5 dB. That should be what you're looking for

Re: Cutting/Trimming/Editing of Audio tracks
Well.. It's measured in bars/beats, not milliseconds. But if you zoom in far enough, the grid disappears and you can make microscopic adjustments.kaydance120 wrote:@yoseph Thanks lots! How precise can it get? Down to the milisecond or less?

Re: Cutting/Trimming/Editing of Audio tracks
Use the keyboard shortcuts: Cmd-1 / Cmd-2 to adjust the grid size larger or smaller. If you zoom in, you'll get into even smaller increments.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing that.
Take a look at this drum sample library. You'll have to just organize them yourself into sampler patches.

Re: 8pre + Ableton - cue mix send to headphone out?
While they're two different outputs, they're playing the exact same channels of audio - 1/2. Your headphone out will need to be set to 3/4 to get a separate mix out of them. From what I can find on the Motu 8pre, there are no additional outputs you can route a separate audio mix to.

Re: 8pre + Ableton - cue mix send to headphone out?
It looks like the Motu 8pre only has two outputs (1&2) which runs both out of your main trs outs and your headphone mix. Without two additional outputs (3&4) you won't get two separate stereo mixes.
You're able to have to mono mixes with your main out set to 1 and cue set to 2.
