I've always wondered what was faster, resampling an entire track or flattening it.
By entire track I mean a long sample that lasts the duration of the song. Also does flattening compress the sound? Sorry for the thread highjack

SideChaining tips

A few side chaining questions.. Can it be done with quality in Live 6? Is it worth upgrading to 7 solely for it's new effects with side chaining capabilities? Do you use it in mastering samples/songs? Is it even worth investigating? any thoughts, I've tried it with a freeware compressor in LIve 6 a ...

Ok I tried it out last night. It should be mentioned that I have Live 6. Live 7 has a new compressor which I think your referring to. The compressor (compressor II)in Live 6 does seem to work as well as audio pluggin or freeware sidechain compressors. Anyways is sidechaining helpful for mastering? I...

Thanks Mike

I'm really noobish in mastering and mixing. A few more questions. Do you have any frequency suggestions for synths, pads, and keys? How do you sidechain? Also if I'm pleased with the sample using eq before the filter shouldn't be neccesary right?

excuse my ignorance

I was told to keep each track at -7db's and to leave the master track at zero at all times. Ableton apparently looses bit rate when the master track is below zero.

This totally solved my clipping problem, and help my mixes. It also leaves room for cranking up levels during mastering.

Cutting frequencies with Autofilter

I was recently told about using Live's Autofilter to cut out unwanted frequencies. For example adjusting the lower ends( bass and kickdrum). Does anyone use this technique? How is it done? Is there a particular setting used in the autofilter?

Thanks for any suggestions

Ok so I felt sorry after reading your pulling teeth comment. I'll be honest Im not into house. I like IDM,Downtempo, DnB, and ambient to noame a few. You have good production, sound wise everything is placed well. Your melodies seem a bit repeditive. Maybe try writing longer notes to create more of ...

We have a macbook and a pc both running live 6
From our experince abelton 6 does far better on XP.
It is just all around better performance.

Hopefully abe 7 address some of the issues that 6 had with OSX
