Hiya,
Confirming this bug is still in 10.1. Happened to me mid-gig. I will try the insert track trick or toggle to arrangement view next time and see if that works and report back.

I'm using 9.1.6 - but since your post alerted me to my inadvertent selection of the region I can negotiate the system more efficiently.

Thanks to Angstrom for calmly and succinctly explaining the problem AND the solution.
I must say that after using Ableton since version 4 I do find version 9 to be disappointing because of pesky things like this and no great improvements in terms of my uses.
