switching to the Intel-only version instead of the Universal one "fixed it" for me

I'm also experiencing the same thing and, as you said in the title, it's a massive issue. I hope they address it ASAP, I tried a number of fixes without any luck and it's making Live completely unusable for me. You'd expect something like this could happen in a beta version, not in a regular update....
