1) Yep, that will work
2) Live does not have to sequence the hardware--you can sequence it with any other sequencers you have. Live can be controlled by external hardware as well, so this part is up to you.
3) I'm not familiar with Push, but should be possible as long as all your MIDI controller ...

Recently acquired a Mackie Onyx 1640i, Volca FM and MI Shruthi XT.
I am in the market for a MIDI keyboard too (perhaps one of the launchkey range), and potentially Push 2.

Mackie Onyx 1640i is a good option if you can find one? It has 16 i/o firewire interface built in meaning you can record in to 16 Ableton channels from external gear and then play them all back to do the mixdown on the desk. You could also look into the Soundcraft MTK range.

Bit of a necro post but I've been tearing my hear out re: popping on side chain compression in 9 and happened across this post today.
