I'm having the same problem. I'm sending MIDI out from my ableton to my nord stage ex. It's not being able to play polyphonic sounds. Played the same through logic and played without a problem. So it's not an issue with the outboard then but it's got to do something with the output of ableton.

wow.. ! i've been struggling with this for sometime too. and not just for a macro, i should be able to set my own default value for any parameter.
i hope someone from ableton is reading this..

Dedicated clock machines can be quite expensive for holding the time tight. So a MIDI controller doing the job through a USB cable seems tough. Besides it's so light! lol
