Re: Difference between Live Intro and Live Lite?

A list of the features in Lite is available at https://www.ableton.com/en/products/live-lite/ . (See the ‘Features included’ link near the top of the page.) Comparing this list to the feature comparison list for Intro definitely suggests that Intro includes more than Lite. Of course, whether or not ...

Re: Am I the *ONLY* one finding M4L actually honestly unusable!?

Max is a kludgy shit show attempt at mimicking true programming Sorry, I can’t let this comment pass unchallenged. Max is a Turing complete programming language that has been around for a very long time (and is based on languages that have been around even longer). The fact that it does not look li...

Re: Source Code Based Audio Block

Yes, [jur] is (as always) correct. You can develop so-called Max externals in C using the Max SDK, and for this you do not require a full license.

The SDK documentation is good, and the Max forums (linked at the top of the same page) are fairly active.

Re: Best way to slice up an entire song

You might want to use a true audio waveform editor such as the cross-platform, free and open source Audacity . It might not be as pretty as some others, but it will get the job done. Live isn’t really intended to be a waveform editor, but it does allow you to specify an external ‘sample editor’—such...

Re: synth question

If I understand what you are looking for, you might try leaving Simpler’s glide mode on but setting the glide time (just below the glide mode setting) as low as it will go. I believe this is 0.1 milliseconds, which turns out to be only 4 or 5 samples at a sample rate of 44100 or 48000 and should be ...

Re: Time to build Ableton Live for iOS?

Sounds like the hardware is up to it, although this has arguably been the case for several years. But… For me there are (at least) five problems: 1. iOS apps are sandboxed in a way that makes sharing of data and files between apps difficult. Real-time inter-app audio does work, however. 2. iOS does ...

Re: Export MIDI issue

If you export I think you just have to accept the 96 TPQN resolution limit and live with it. If this is a problem depends on your needs of exact timing. Is that one dotted 128-th? I think it will be sufficient. I am working exclusively with music that will be notated and performed, so no so high re...

Oh well, I did suspect that you might have already tried the zoom display idea, but I thought I should suggest it in case you had not.

Given that you have already tried it, +1 to everything that Angstrom said.

Re: reduceinformations

It isn’t exactly Yeco, but if you mostly just want things bigger you might try the ‘Zoom Display’ setting in Live’s Preferences, in the Look & Feel tab. You can then hide the browser and detail view using the little triangle thingies in the upper left and lower right of the main window—they are call...

Re: Has anyone tried Git style versioning with .ALS files?

.als files are actually xls files, that's an Excel spreadsheet, just try changing the suffix to .xls and open the file to see what I mean. Great idea, Git with Live, but this Excel trick doesn't work for me. It appears to me that .als files are nothing fancier than gzipped XML (plain text) files. T...

Live 9.7.1 doesn't automatically update to Live 9.7.2 (Win)

Re: Compressors - Your preferences and suggestions?

Given that these are all different, I figure that each one must have its own place in the world and have certain types of application (eg. vocals, drums, master bus) where it really shines. So can you comment on one or more of the above 5, saying which kind of applications/situations you find that ...

Re: Ableton reverb is not that bad!?

I think we are agreed far more than we are disagreed. Indeed, I am not sure we are disagreed at all. Yes, it would be better if a convolution reverb were included native in Live instead of being an add-on via M4L. No argument there whatsoever. I also agree that Live's versioning system—or lack there...
