Re: Ableton 12 performance on M3 Pro Max
I'm probably the most annoying type of user ever. I'm not only brand new to Ableton (and just using the 30 day lite demo) but I am also brand new to a Mac. I'm fairly computer savvy on Linux or PC, but irritatingly green on MacOS. I'm on a MacBook Pro with the M3 Max chip, 36GB RAM, and 1TB HDD (91...

Re: Ableton 12 and the use of efficiency and performance cores on M-processors
I've tested this on the 7 or so DAWs on my system. For the most part "real time" DAWs like Live, Bitwig etc. are not using Efficiency cores whereas ones with secondary buffers to improve track counts like Reaper and Digital Performer are. I don't know if there's any way to track exactly wh...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
I really do not get this? How is the online manual still filled with misinformation, and wrong shortcuts months after the release of Live 12? What the hell is going on at Ableton HQ? I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, I'm seriously trying to understand how a multi million dollar company can leave thei...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
I'm still shocked by this, but I shouldn't be at this point. Ableton are now the biggest independent DAW developer out there, they're one of the top 4 most used DAWs, and you IMO definitely see some awkward corporate shenanigans. Logic although it has Apples backing has not figured out how to use al...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
As to changes, you'd think these would be documented as they go with someone updating the users guide as they go. Again, if they would just open the system up so that users could tailor all the commands to their own shortcut needs, changes wouldn't cause so much consternation. IMO Ableton started w...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
this sounds like a depressing way to live–having to spend that much time in any manual for any software sounds absolutely awful. 😅 learning a system sufficiently should take care of that. if not, probably not the best software to be using. Currently I'm helping a guy out who is designing keyboard c...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
it's a weird, silly decision, and frustrating, but stomping one's feet and acting like that's a good reason to switch DAWs is even dumber, imo. 🤷🏻♂️ Honestly, timely updates to their web pages, shortcuts and manual to help you learn a program are 100% a good reason to switch DAWs, if I had experie...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
+1000 With all the changes to ingrained/muscle memory shortcuts people have been using for 10+ years - CORRECT INFORMATION IS REQUIRED. On the other hand, with so many changes in this regard, it would be a bigger task to ensure all the pages of the manual that reference older stuff is updated and r...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
I agree it seems like an oversight. I’m mostly puzzled by the folks who are considering ditching Live altogether because of it. it’s one thing to be disappointed and inconvenienced by it, but it seems a very strange hill to choose to die on. but hey, different strokes for different folks and all th...

Re: Live 12 reference manual DISCONTINUED BOOOOOO
I mean, I get the desire for a PDF and searchable manual, but it's pretty weird to be looking at switching to another piece of software based solely (or primarily) on that. like, once you learn it, you shouldn't need to refer to the manual so often in the first place. I've used Live for 20 years, t...

Re: Should I get an ultrawide monitor?
IMO Ableton Live is now hands down the best DAW for dual monitor setups. It has without a doubt the most intuitive setup, completely trouble free.
I would go for two 27-32" monitors over an ultrawide.

Re: Expensive update
Lives competitors in terms of user base are all over the board, it's impossible to compare directly since Logic has been $199 and free updates for ten years; Reaper is $69 or $225 if you're an honest pro, and upgrades about every 4-5 years; Studio One and Pro Tools are doing exclusives in subscripti...
