I think that it is no nonsense at all.
I've meditated on solfeggio a lot of times and it really brings you into another state of consciousness.
Also did I try to make a tune on the basis of 528 Hz (DNA-Repair) and after half an hour of those sines on my headphones I was really uuuuuuuuuuuuuu ...
