Re: Compact units for field recordings
If you need an XLR input then the Zoom H4 or new H4N has dual XLR inputs.

I think it looks white in the photo, but it's aluminium in real life.

Re: Price of Upgrade to Live 8
ableton is overpriced in the current credit crunch Have to say ash1 I think you raise a good point. However, I think the answer is not for everyone to moan at Ableton - a small company in the grand scheme. Has everyone not noticed that recently ALL music gear and software has gone up in price? It s...

Re: ableton needs to be half the price
True, but I personally would need to spend a lot of money on a Mac to be able to run it. It isn't a fair comparison.Salty P wrote:Why?
Logic studio comes with a ton of features (you could argue more than ableton) and is now under £300

Re: ableton needs to be half the price
Ableton still has bills to pay, and is still a small company in the grand scheme of things. Its employees are affected by the credit crunch, just like we all are. Reducing the cost of Live or the upgrades wouldn't help Ableton in the long term. It needs all the revnue it can get. The position I am i...

Re: DBeat like OMGWTFBBQPPL - what where they thinking ?
I like the idea, but have to say I think the execution lets it down. As per usual, it's the little things that make a big difference for me. Namely, the screen should be tilted for easier viewing, and WHY such a limited number of knobs? I just don't get it, even with the touchscreen. That layout cou...

Re: Moderators, please -- censor us!
This is from a person who has only 15 posts? Have to say that I dislike comments like this. The indirect message it gives me is "your view isn't valid because you don't contribute so often." Personally, I'd rather post a small number of useful posts than hundreds of babble. I think...

'Changes'; 'Rebel Rebel'; 'Ashes to Ashes'; '"Heroes"'; 'Lets Dance'.
And anything from 'Ziggy Stardust'; 'Low'; or 'Outside'.
'Outside' is indeed one of my favourite albums ever.

Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
If that's Novations update, it's so weak I might considder it an April Fools joke, just for adding nothing but "bling" to the SL series. That's not going to take anything from any other manufacturer and absolutely nothing from someone in line to purchase the APC40. Why would they keep the...

Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
I would like to believe that it is a kind of a lemur with automap. In the 300 $ price range. Instant working multitouchinterface for all DAWs, DJ-systems and plugins on the market. no it is not Fair enough... ...but can you confirm that it isn't what I am predicting? Or am I too close to the mark, ...

Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
My guess, based on the info in the above news quote... It's a stand-alone synth that can be used as a plug-in. The plug-in can be edited using the controls on the synth, and obviously the synth can be edited away from a computer. And it'll probably have lots of assignable MIDI controllers for contr...

funny, i downloaded the most recent version last week. i was told i (might) need to learn my way around some tracker software for a video game project. i was a little bit shocked at how different the flow is. . seems like it might take a while to get used to . if anyone has any tips...? [OT] Any Renoise users here?
This weekend I have rediscovered my love for Renoise. I stopped using it once I upgraded from Live Lite to the full Live 7. Recently, I've been desiring a Machinedrum for some convenient beat making. But of course Renoise, like any tracker, is optimised for working with a computer/laptop. And this w...

Re: Alternate ways to record tempo changes as song is playing?
Unless I am missing something, all you need to do is record your pitch wheel tweakings as automation. Isn't it? If you map the pitch wheel (or a knob or other MIDI controller) to the tempo field, then hit record, your movements/tempo changes will be recorded as automation in the arrangement view. Wh...
