Re: How to normalize a recorded audio?

Yes, a “normalise to....” command or function would be a lot simpler.

Re: Newbie - live percussion looping - questions

Low volume might be due to the microphone itself, where it’s positioned or inadequate gain in the interface preamps. But what do you mean by “low”? Recording at 24bit with levels around -12dB or a bit lower is often the best approach if you are building up tracks because each track adds to the volum...

Re: Simple MIDI CC filter

The approach of most MIDI filters is to filter out all instances of a particular CC rather than also checking the note number and applying a selective filter based on that. Which is a much simpler task than only filtering out CCs when certain notes are played. The easiest answer might be to switch o...

Re: Automated pitch correction for complex audio

Pitch-shifting changing polyphonic sounds isn’t straightforward which is why most pitch shifting is done to monophonic sounds, and is most realistic with sounds with few strong harmonics. Having said that, Melodyne might be able to do what you want.

Another possibility might be using Live’s sampler.

Re: Live 10 Lite on Mac- Can't Install

Two thoughts. First check there isn’t another window hidden behind the one you can see that’s waiting for input, such as the admin user password to authorise the install.

Or maybe the installer got corrupted during the download. Try downloading a fresh copy and see if that works.

Re: How to normalize a recorded audio?

Consolidating an audio clip normalises it. Live then reduces the volume of the normalised clip back to where it was before normalisation. There’s a slider in the clip view controls that can then be used to set the clip level wherever you want it, e.g.to 0dB if that’s what you want.

Re: Error installing VST Dynamic Range Meter Mk2 Live 10

If Live is listing it under AU it is not a VST. It is an AU. AU and VST are not interchangeable names for the same thing nor does “VET” mean “plugin”, they are different software specifications. You may not have the VST version of the plugin installed. Use Finder to check what’s in the VST and VST3 ...

Re: Recording Spoken Word - Help required please.

Audacity is a free audio editing/recording application that has pretty good noise reduction/removal abilities. So does Adobe Audition if you already have a Creative Cloud account. Gating is often the worst way of removing hiss and background noise from recording, because it doesn’t remove background...

Re: Error installing VST Dynamic Range Meter Mk2 Live 10

Since it references audio units (AUs) I’ll assume you’re using a Mac. VST plugins format is not the same as AU. Sometimes despite both formats being installed only one of the two will work properly in Live for a certain plugin. If the AU won’t work try finding the VST version under the VST or VST3 p...

Re: RMS metering

As I understand it K system metering is about setting and controlling the headroom between RMS and peak at the finishing/mastering stage, not a way of measuring RMS “average” value. And to work well it really benefits from a meter that behaves like an old-fashioned VU meter. Live’s metering function...

Re: Can audio drivers cause issues with delay compensation?

I guess this sort of thing can happen if the audio driver doesn’t correctly report the buffer size. To complicate things still further some interfaces have some built-in processing delays the driver knows nothing about. Interface internal latency can range from a very few milliseconds indeed into th...

Re: Macbook Pro with Ableton runs extremely hot

I have a feeling the whole laptop body is now part of the heatsink so it's designed to just get hot. Macbooks have used the big lump of aluminium they’re machined out of as a heatsink for many years. iPads and iPhones use their aluminium alloy backs as heatsinks and get quite warm sometimes. A MacB...

Re: Processors and latency

With PCs it’s not just processor spec that can be an issue. Sometimes dropouts are caused by badly behaving drivers which grab exclusive use of Windows until whatever event the driver is waiting for happens. If that takes longer than the audio buffer settings dropouts happen. This is almost complete...

Re: Ableton synced to external synth always starts from 1.1.1

Unless the drum machine has the song programmed into it, is started at the correct point in the song and sends song position pointers to a sequencer that obeys song position any sequencer synced to it, including DAWs, will always start from the beginning of the song every time. That’s how MIDI clock...

Re: partition or second hard drive to install pack and library?

If you are monitoring incoming audio both through the interface and Live that can cause the kind of symptoms you seem to be describing. You can put the Live library and packs anywhere you like, so long as you tell Live where they are in preferences. Mac internal SSDs, assuming you have one, are so f...
