Re: How to resize MIDI items?

It’s only weird until you get used to it.

All DAWs have some things that seem odd for a while if you’re used to using a different DAW. Live probably more than most because of the very different session and arrangement views and how they interact.

Re: Noob Question- Decay

In the case of the 909 - and lots of kick and tom drum synths - part of the characteristic of the sound is that the pitch changes over time. Usually by starting higher then descending. The amount of pitch change and how long it takes is the “pitch envelope”. Snares might have a “noise envelope” whic...

Re: Removing Tape hiss

Audacity is definitely worth trying. Adobe Audition can do some impressive things with noise sometimes, but like all Adobe’s stuff these days it has a rental charge. You can get a free demo, but I’m not sure what, if anything, is disabled in it.

Re: CPU usage in Live 10

I’m on a Mac, so the hardware and OS architecture is obviously very different (BIOS? What BIOS? Where?), but Turbo seems to have a beneficial effect. My MBP has a lowly 2.2GHz quad core + hyper-threading i7. When I run low latency audio one core immediately goes to turbo speed and stays there, this ...

Re: Track Volume

No problem with anyone asking questions, just sorry about taking so long to reply. I think I must have had my stupid hat on for a few days - there’s another way to set audio clip volumes without using utility and it’s probably the easiest way to do it. Live doesn’t have a normalisation function - or...

Re: Record Ableton output for podcast

Can you record all the audio in Live, export that then import the audio file into the video software and time-align and edit everything in the video software? Or record the video then import it into Live and time-align and edit the video and audio in Live? Another, and possibly the simplest, way is ...

Re: Track Volume

The track faders don’t work like that. They set a level but it doesn’t necessarily put an absolute cap on the volume. If I needed to boost a track by 9dB I’d probably use utility and turn up its gain to the amount required or normalise the audio to -3dB. Keep an eye on the master channel meter thoug...

Re: Youtube potentially "to remove uncommercial content" under new rules

Youtube at the moment certainly seems to be heading in a direction intended to persuade people to pay to watch the service. As for advertising, it’s up to Youtube and the advertisers to decide what gets adverts and what doesn’t. We don’t get to be party to that discussion. It will be interesting to ...

Re: Youtube potentially "to remove uncommercial content" under new rules

There is absolutely nothing new in this at all. It’s always been there. Youtube are a commercial company and have always taken the position they can delete user content for various reasons. It might, at a big stretch, mean Youtube will remove your content if they think you’re music isn’t “commercial...

Re: How!? Record two audio inputs at the same time, but have their audio separate?

If both microphones can pick up your voice then your voice will show up on both their channels. This is called “cross-talk” or “spill”. The way to avoid, or at least minimise, it is to make sure each mic can only pick up what you want it to, or only pick up the unwanted signal at a level that is so ...

Re: Track Volume

Another way to boost the audio volume is to drop a utility plugin on the track and turn up its gain. Or normalise the audio to a louder maximum volume. Unlike compressors, limiters or saturation those methods won’t reduce the dynamic range of the audio or add distortion. They just make the audio lou...

Re: Komplete 12 External Hard Drive

Whether a USB 3 SSD would be fast enough depends on how much data is being transferred on and off it at a time. USB 3 is fast, but it doesn’t always reach it’s specified speed. I’ve an external USB drive enclosure for 7,200rpm 3.5” drives which is much slower than my WD, Seagate and Toshiba bus-powe...

Re: Studio Synth Setup Help

I was thinking at first I was going to be using 1/4" cables to send it into my audio drivers L/R inputs from the synth audio output... The audio outputs on the synth will need connecting to your interface. Audio is not MIDI, they are two completely different things. The audio from the synth will be...

Re: Lite to suite , better performance ?

Are you using a Mac or Windows? If you've a Mac Live seems to hit the Windowserver (which drives the graphics) very hard which in turn greatly increases Live's load on the system. A suggested fix is here - https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=230967 It worked for me and others have found is...
