Re: Noise spike in new analog synth.

A little noise from analogue synths or analogue gear in general isn’t unusual - they mostly contain amplifiers after all, and amplifiers make some self-noise. For what it’s worth I have a Minitaur which is very quiet but not silent, it has around 8-12dB of self noise depending on where the filter fr...

Re: New Macbook Pro won't recognize external synths

Are the synths showing up in the MIDI part of the Audio/MIDI Setup application?

Re: Audio dropouts from clips in RAM

Thinking about it, my Mac uses more than 4.5GB of RAM when running Live.

Seeing what Activity Monitor says about memory use and memory pressure while Live is running a project might be a good idea, if not already done.

Re: ASIO4ALL Live 10 Win10 - crashes resolved

ASIO4ALL can be useful, especially if the only audio interface available is a PC’s on-board sound chip. Generally an interface manufacturer's ASIO driver will do a better and more stable job if one’s available. On the other hand, if you need to create what Macs call a composite audio interface where...

Re: ASIO4ALL Live 10 Win10 - crashes resolved

Yep, many audio interfaces really hate being attached to USB hubs. MIDI is usually fine using hubs, but audio tends to run into problems.

Re: Noise in project

An As my sig indicates, I have an RME UFX. I usually record at either 64 or 128 sample buffers, occasionally 256 if the project is already heavily “loaded”. That’s at 44.1KHz, 24 bit. Connection is firewire via Thunderbolt 2 -> firewire adaptorThere’s no hum or noise at all. Before switching 100% to...

Re: Macbook Pro 2019 16 inch fan noise with Ableton

I also had the 2018 15" Macbook Pro prior to this machine. I couldn't figure out why it lasted about an hr when using live on battery. If I run Logic on my MBP when on battery it pops up a window to warn me it would be a very good idea to plug the Mac into the mains. Battery life is never brilliant...

Re: Noise in project

ASIO4ALL is unlikely to do a better job than an ASIO driver supplied by the interface manufacturer. In fact, ASIO4ALL isn’t an ASIO driver but a way to get Windows to treat the Windows audio drivers as if they are ASIO. Noise can get in in all sorts of ways. A steady hum or whine that has a constant...

Re: Unable to Sidechain Anything.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that if the attack is set too long or the release set too short side chain compression may not be audible because either the compressor never kicks in or it switches out before the effect can be heard. For the same kind of reason, if the compre...

Re: Live not using all cores

One downside of having lots of cores is that each individual core generally runs slower than a processor with fewer cores. DAWs need fast cpus because they need to process audio in as close to real-time as possible. So there comes a point where adding cores does the opposite of increasing the comput...

Re: Audio dropouts form clips in RAM

Dropouts are usually the result of the audio buffer emptying rather than drive speed - and Mac internal SSDs are very fast indeed. The one in my (not so young any more) MBP benchmarks around 3 times or more the speed of a Thunderbolt 2 connected SATA SSD. What does Live’s performance meter indicate ...

Re: New Macbook Pro and how much ram for Live 10?

Live 10 does seem to hit the Mac Windowserver very hard indeed for some reason. Which will quite probably result in it turning the fans on. https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=230967&p=1743486&hilit=windowserver#p1743486 migt be worth trying - it reduced the load on my MBP enormously. Othe...

This might help - don’t know if it works on the current Mac models, but it has helped a lot with some older ones (including mine).

Re: Strange Issue: Ableton wipes all global settings

The only suggestion I have at the moment is to run disk utility on the relevant drive(s) and see if it reports any errors.
