honestly, I'm so pissed off and frustrated right now that I'm just thinking of going back to totally acoustic music. this makes no sense, and I'm not a *total* dumbass with technology.

no. No overdubs. Rebooted computer, tried everything out--all great. worked like expected. then, it doesn't--all of a sudden it just only records 1 bar loops no matter what. Nothing changed--just in the middle of practicing. I'm suspecting an unstable system...but I don't know what to do about it.
