i think they finally fixed this! after so many years!! i tried it right now on my Alesis Surge on Ableton 12 using MacOS 12.7.5 and it worked. it got all 158 bars (~4m30s)

seems like the 10.1.2 release fixed it (for me at least).

just curious if this fix or if 10.1.2 will roll out this year.

i was also experiencing this issue. the current work around is to have 2 MIDI tracks
- one as a middleware MIDI "input" track
- the other as the receiving MIDI which has your drum rack or whatever instrument loaded

in the first track ...
