Yeah. For example old Cubase can open new Cubase projects. At the startup you get message saying what files are missing like plugins in Live. Or the ProTools way. While saving the project choose the version of ProTools that will open the project.

I have Live 10 and my friends send me Live 9 project, I edit it save it and it is useless to them. Also I do not expect Ableton to update Live 9 when there is Live 10 released, but I would just like to see Ableton devs keeping this in mind with developing of Live 11 or what the number of it will be....

Please enable forward compatibility as not everyone has money to update from 9 to 10. Also mentioned upgrade is just not worth it for some users.
