Doesnt uninstalling the onboard video codecs on my pc mess with stuff?

I have a compressor on my tom and I've sidechained the kick. When I lower the threshold I hear more kick and less tom. Does this mean that threshold lowers the tom volume? And also, does the output meter raise the remaining volume of the tom that was not suppressed by the threshold. Thank you.

I'm wondering if the best way to use plugins is to let them save to where they automatically want to save to or should I pick where I want them to save to? I've had trouble when I pick a place.
