Re: Ctrl-alt-shift E doesn't work for toggling audio engine
What type of machines, OS, different OS? Different Live versions? You can simply double-click the cpu meter to turn the audio engine on/off. Thanks! I hadn't noticed that Live doesn't prompt you to install minor version upgrades, which means that I'd fallen a bit behind. The desktop was on 11.0.12,...

Ctrl-alt-shift E doesn't work for toggling audio engine
On my desktop computer, the combination ctrl-alt-shift E works for toggling the audio engine on and off, but on my laptop, it doesn't. The combination is displayed next to "Audio engine on" on the desktop, but not on the laptop. I have run Nirsoft's HotKeysList, and verified that ctrl-alt-...

Re: Alternative, more advanced metronome?
The trouble with that is that by the time I've fiddled around doing that, including trying to remember where to find the right woodblock or clave sounds, I've forgotten whatever the riff was that I wanted to work on.

Alternative, more advanced metronome?
One thing I find limiting about Live is the metronome. When I want to play awkward time signatures, it helps to have a metronome that can do more than just accent the first beat of every bar. For instance, just now I came up with a bass riff in 7/4 which I want to develop into a song structure. Brea...

Live hangs when I try to shut it down
Whenever I try to shut down Live, instead of shutting down, it just hangs with a spinning wheel for at least several minutes until I get Windows to force it to terminate. How can I fix this?

metronome adds extra beats in 7/8
Today I set my metronome in Live 11 to 7/8. For some reason, every few bars the metronome adds a bar of 2/8. In other words, the metronome goes bip bop bop bop bop bop bop bip bop bop bop bop bop bop … for several bars, and then, for some reason, it goes bip bop bop bop bop bop bop bip bop bip bop b...

Getting Oxygen 8 V2 transport buttons to work
How can I get the transport buttons on my Oxygen 8 V2 to work with Live? The best I have been able to do has been to do Ctrl-M and then map them manually to the Live transport buttons, but for some reason this means that I have to press the play and stop button twice before they respond. How can I g...

Re: Opened a saved set and all plugins have disappeared
It turned out that the plugins were still there, but they didn't appear when I clicked on the space below the clips and above the track controls, which they normally do. Double-clicking on the name of one of the tracks brought them back into view.

Opened a saved set and all plugins have disappeared
I had a set in which I didn't use any Ableton instruments or effects, but I had used a couple of instances of Reaktor and one of Kontakt. I saved it as a new set. Then I reopened the original version of the set and found that all the plugins had disappeared. I then opened the second version of the s...

Still no shuffle editing
People have been requesting shuffle editing for years. It really is essential for working on the structure of a composition. It's not just Pro Tools that has it. Reaper has had it for donkey's years, and it's not as if Cockos has got a huge army of programmers working on fancy features. Why not in L...

Aligning consonants in multi-part vocals
I am trying to mix multi-part vocals in arrangement view. I need to nudge some of the plosive consonants in some of the tracks so that they sound at the same time in all of the tracks. Is there a way to do this? In Reaper it is easy. You can set warp points on a track in the main timeline and then d...

Battery 4 and Massive malfunctioning in Live 11
I have created a project in Live 11 which includes one track with NI Battery 4 and another with NI Massive 1.5.5. Both are malfunctioning. Battery works for a while and then suddenly goes extremely quiet, so quiet that it only registers -53dB on the track meter. It is barely audible. The only thing ...

Mixing surdos or alfaias with bass
Does anyone have any tricks for mixing surdos and alfaias? I have bought a pack of Brazilian percussion samples, but I'm getting some very muddled sound in the low end of my mix when I try to use them. The usual trick for getting a bass drum to coexist with a bass guitar is to compress the bass whil...

Monitoring when using Autotune, Waves Tune etc
I have just started experimenting using Waves Tune Real-Time for radical modification of the sound of my voice in real time. The problem I am having is that the treated signal from my headphones is drowned out by the sound of my actual voice resounding through my skull, so I can't hear the musical e...
