Re: High resolution Controller with knobs for playing synths

In the mean time, I have found out that the Sequential Synths (Prophet 8 rev2, Pro 3, ...) do send and receive NRPN MIDI (2 data bytes, that means 14 Bit resolution). And they have many knobs. Anyone using these (or generally NRPN) to control parameters and softsynths in Ableton?

Re: High resolution Controller with knobs for playing synths

The real problem is that there aren’t many synths, hardware or software, that speak 14 bit MIDI and if a synth only understands 7 bit CC values, 0-127, then the controller having finer graduation is redundant. Yes, but at least VST Instruments (and the internal Ableton instruments) support high res...

Re: High resolution Controller with knobs for playing synths

Thanks for looking into this topic! In the mean time, I have found this thread: https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?t=226279 There it is explained that push2 cannot be used for absolute 14Bit (or at least 10Bit) absolute knob control. Push2 in device mode let's you relatively control synth param...

High resolution Controller with knobs for playing synths

I am looking for a controller which offers a higher resolution than 7Bit MIDI CC for controlling synths in Ableton. Especially I have a problem to get smooth filter sweeps with Roland Cloud JX-8P Zenology, but also fine tune nuances of pitch with bx_oberhausen etc.. I would prefer (large) knobs, but...

So disappointed..

I am so disappointed with the Push2 to be used as a studio device. I can try it free for one week at home (a special offering). I was fantasizing for months how the Push could speed up my workflow and help me to get back to that tactile direct approach for synth sound design. But after two days, I p...

Re: Beat practise on mixing and mastering

Of course it is more flexibel and more ideal to record "dry". Only drawback: it is more effort.

Re: How to delete all CC's in a midi clip in SessionView?

At least in V10, there is a command in the clip context menu: "Delete All Envelopes" (German: "Alle Hüllkurven entfernen"), Ctrl+Del. It is only shown if there is automation present.

Re: Next steps (beginner)?

It needs practice, practice, practice to get better results in composing and production. IMO, the content provided with Live Standard is enough to start, more samples or more VSTis won't help much. Try to recreate some Patterns of the Music you like. On that journey, you can learn a lot. Can you sha...

Re: How to identify a Device type?

I find that "Display device" option for the mixer quite helpful indeed, especially because it allows to quickly jump between EQ devices for mixing. But in the case as described in my first post, it only displays "Instrument Rack", the internally chained Saturator doesn't show up....

How to identify the type of a device?

1. Is there any quick tooltip or other way to identify a given device :?: 2. Is there any quick way to jump to the description of a device (in the online help or Manual) :?: Probably some very noobish questions: Often I cannot tell what type a device is, for example when I load a Clip from the Singu...

Re: Launching clips simultaneously in session view

For mixed-scene-launching (as the Roland MC 707 offers it, for example, or Deluge, or Pyramid), for Live it is required to use ClyphX and M4L, I have been told. "Workaround" in Live Standard is to get comfortable with the "Capture and insert Scene" command, which builds a new Sce...

Re: Ableton Push 3 update

Yes, for 16 channels and motorfaders etc, there are already third-party products available (not cheap, of course). What makes Push so great is the interaction with Live - so a bigger screen with touch would be nice, especially since it is hard to implement a nice touch controller for a DAW in a more...

Re: Display of Controller Assignments

In the mean time, I have found some answers (at https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209071249-Push-1-2-User-Mode-for-custom-MIDI-mappings) 1. The Push can control several devices at once, but only in USER mode. 2. Push's LCD will not display any feedback when creating custom MIDI mappings in ...

Display of Controller Assignments

I don't have a Push, but I am interested in getting one (or the Novcation SL mk III, or an MPC Live with Ableton control...) I would like to record a session to the arranger, and to have several knobs prepared for different synth/fx so I can record my tweakings in realtime while performing the song ...
