Gain Staging. Details that are never talked about.
So I understand gain staging enough BUT theres one thing that seems to never be considered fully. For argument sake lets say theres a VST synth first in the chain and because of the synth patch, its really quiet (lets call it -24db). Of course the track fader is far from clipping, but can I add volu...

Re: Arturia Keystep as external instrument
I have got everything solved now with the keystep and getting midi to an external synth. Arturia does have a way to turn on MIDI through but must be done within the software. But I have found it easier to just use the MIDI interface to go to my synth and my keystep is plugged into my computer via us...

Re: Arturia Keystep as external instrument
Thanks Chancery, I looked and the options on the keystep are, internal, usb, midi, and sync in. Maybe one of them lets it do through sync, I will try that again (Ive tried them all) but user confusion is a big problem here so its worth a shot. I do need the clock pretty bad though because this is a ...

Re: Arturia Keystep as external instrument
Thanks alot for the help. Been scratchin my head all day, I guess the sequencer just does not have an off switch, not without losing other important stuff with it anyway. I found a midi only interface for a nice price and im just going to get that.

Re: Arturia Keystep as external instrument
If I uncheck the keystep sync out in ableton preferences I will lose the clock to my synth, then the keystep is basically doing nothing. To add to my original post I do not want to play the keyboard at all I want my programmed notes in the ableton midi clip sent to the synth, and the clock, velocity...

Re: Arturia Keystep as external instrument
I am connection with a midi cable with the midi out on the keystep directly to the synth and the keystep is plugged into computer with usb. I want to be synced with the tempo of my song and be able to run those notes to the synth, just cant get around that sequencer coming on every time i hit play i...

Arturia Keystep as external instrument
I am using an arturia keystep (clock setting set to USB) with abletons "external instrument" on a track to send midi info to an external synth and the keystep seems to be receiving the info from ableton correctly but the only notes that come out of the keystep is from its built in sequence...

Short Sample Playing too Quiet
Something weird happening here, I have a very short sample that I always use for a click to sidechain with and now for some reason its very quiet on playback (-12db at least) even though the clip info says its at 0db. Even weirder if i lay out the sample where i want and consolidate into a more mana...

Re: SIDECHAIN EQ FUNCTION QUESTION???
I hope im not misunderstanding something but I dont think it works that way. No matter how your eq settings on the compressor are set it still lowers the volume of the whole frequency spectrum on the track that compressor is on, the eq part is just telling the compressor to only listen for those fre...

Frequency Shifter Adding Gain
Why does the freq shifter add so much gain? Im using it to tune a kick up by about 2 semitones, the only setting that are doing anything is the fine tune knob is set to raise the frequency by 20hz and it is adding 6db to the track volume and clips (even with no settings changed and dry wet at 100% i...

Re: Compressing Drums. Why Do It?
I know our ears act as compressors when we hear something loud they compress the volume much like a slow attack time on a compressor would do. We dont realize it happens because our brains still perceive it as very loud even though our ears protected our hearing from the initial burst of volume (nat...
