Turns out that I guessed correctly. After a reboot User2 mode is available in the Launchpad95 script.

Try looking at settings.py with a text editor .....on windows its usually here (if you have copied launchpad95 to same folder as myself...>>>"C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live 11 Suite\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts\Launchpad95"........about halfway down there is options for the user modes etc.....

Live wont save your specific mapping when you drag them into a set that's already open. The way round is to save the instrument track, with mapping,as a template. It will become an ".als". Then open the set. If you drag it in after opening a set it wont keep the mapping. Its a pain in the ...

if its only happening visually then that's good news. The colour data that makes the APC go flashy flashy is sent on a separate midi channel from the important stuff so its still sending and causing the conflict, i think, its confusing to me. My Midi Fighter Twister is a nightmare for random flashes...

Something is sending data. Try a midi monitor plug in to see if you can find what is spitting out data. Turn all VSTs and plugin off. Start with a blank set and see if it still happens. Click on a midi track input source. Is any specific channel lighting up?

Ditto. I think it happens when Live saves the device as part of a set or project. Creating a unique copy of the device. But don’t quote me on that. They are usually pretty small files and so it’s not too concerning.
