Do you mean using a gate and sidechain?
When doing that, e.g. gate on an open hi-hat, side-chained to a closed hi-hat, the moment the closed hi-hat sample is finished the sidechain opens, and you'll hear the open hi-hat ringing out. You can try to play with the "hold" parameter of ...
