Need some advice.

I love Live's video editing ability & the fact that you can warp & really compose tracks to video exactly how you want.

The problem I'm having is when it comes to exporting the vids - they just lose all quality!

Can someone recommend either

a) A decent high quality ...

You'll have to wait for someone else's input regarding looping but as far as I know you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever as this is what Ableton is designed for....

With regards to virtual synths ... Ableton is compatible with all VST & DSX soft synths meaning anything that'll work in Cubase ...

Ok, you'll need a multi input soundcard (if you want to have a dedicated channel in Live for each instrument). There are as many soundcard manufacturer's out there as there are ... umm ... flavours of ice cream ...

there's no issue here. the idea was brought up by someone who doesn't know Live at all and refused to look into it himself so he just read what other people wrote and interpreted a lot of it incorrectly.

I've traded sets with lots of people without ever taking this issue into consideration ...

You'd have the suite install folder on there, so 40GB by your estimate.

Plus any FX / VSTs etc.

The tracks would (I advise) be stored on the local drive (internal)

I would always advise using an internal drive to store the wav's & asds.

Set the install folder of live to your external HDD and when you go into live set the following to a folder on your internal drive.


Options > Preferences > File / Folder > Temporary Folder

I've had success with syncing via Live's clock, you may need to adjust the midi offset times to get them in sync but once it's locked it was solid for me.

Mind you, we were doing audio stuff with controllers providing the only MIDI data so not really heavy MIDI usage there...

Haven't visited that thread so it might have solved the problem ... you could always warp on an earlier version of Live ... the warp markers will work in later versions ... meaning your trick will still work in Live 8!!!

Also, check the site in my sig out - that'll take ALL the work out of warping

Here's a tutorial explaining the difference.

Basically the mp3s must be decoded to wavs before they're used in live. The wavs are stored on your HDD in a seperate folder (so you may as well simply start with the wav's).

The wav & .wav.asd can then be used on ANY ableton system worldwide ...
