my experience has led me to stay away from m-audio. 2 out of 2 were crap for me. your milage may vary.

I have zero experience with real SSL consoles but when I went to the local music store, it was pretty nice to see and hear it in action. The sales guy a/b'd some strange funk/jazz mix and without it the mix was pretty stale. Just with modest compression and eq curves, the tracks seemed to not occupy...

I went through the following in this order: tascam us-428, m-audio audiophile, m-audio 410, TC-Electronics Konnekt 24d, Motu828 MkII.
I went through hell with every one except the motu. your milage may vary.

that's my exact system and the same symptoms. using built in disk rather than fw and everything seems to be okay - relatively. I only work in session view on mine though because the whole arrange view is painfully slow on my powerbook. i'm extremely jealous watching Live work on macintels.

I just got rid of my 410. actually i just rid my fw bus of it... it's still on my desk. i'm using a motu 828 that made me quickly forget about m-audio. i am very happy (for now) :knocks wood:
