How do I clone my Ableton laptop? Will things work if I do?

I got to the point in my Ableton life, where everything works as I want, I need no new updates, features, zip. It's perfect, rock solid, I know where everything's at, know all the bug workarounds, and can pull of editing magic that would make a Hollywood pro pale out. Sheer Nirvana. I am running Abl...

Re: How do you create a "rasper" sound?

Thank you Angstrom. I'm still tinkering with my "bass riser" half note :-)
Now trying to get it to resemble that growing "rrrrrrrrr" of a suspicious bulldog

How do you create a "rasper" sound?

Sax players have a trick where they increase the rasp (grit, growl) of a sustained note gradually to turn it into the functional equivalent of a synth riser. I'd love to recreate this pleasant rasp build-up with a synth sound, but I can't figure it how to do it. Any ideas? If I just envelope the fil...

Re: Marvin Juwig-Utopia

Well done, Marvin, you learned the "house rules" very well.
Now that you know the rules, try to throw them away. See if you are ready to sound how YOU would like, instead.

"Blortt!" dubstep leads - is there a name for these?

EDM has a lot of descriptive sound names: buildups, downlifters, impacts, subdrops, arps, hoovers, etc... but what's the word for those dubstep-ish leads that often sound like "blortt!" ? Just trying to figure out what word I should be searching for while browsing synth presets :-) Thank you

Re: A tool to lift audio demo files?

Thank you, Fanu. I'm on PC, so I checked if there is a PC version. Audio Hijack is not available for Windows but there are some alternatives that run on Windows with similar functionality. The most popular Windows alternative seems to be VB-Audio VoiceMeeter, which is free. I'm just downloading it. ...

A tool to lift audio demo files?

Is there any tool that will let me save audio preview files from various sample vendors? Before it was easy to "Save As" the demo mp3, now it's all custom audio players that conceal the demo file's URL. I need this to check how the product sounds at 175bpm, my working tempo. Just because a...

Re: Live 11 is coming !!!

Angstrom's "I'll get some new stuff to complain about." remark was the nicest self-deprecating wisdom I found in a long time. A single sentence that has layers of insights wrapped into more layers of insights, Pottering.

Re: Live 11 is coming !!!

I'm going to do what I always do : purchase my license to grumble at the earliest opportunity. Sure, they should have added a few of these bits to L10.2. Sure they are shafting us a bit. But have you observed nothing? This is purgatory we exist in, not heaven. Things are meant to be 59% annoying/di...

Re: Exported audio sounds quiet, half volume of what it should be.

One thing that can cause such volume loss (and more) is if you have a calibration plugin on your master track that you forgot to deactivate while exporting. :-)

Re: Does anybody know IRCAM Lab TS?

I just bought TS2 today, it's on sale for $29 at https://store.dontcrack.com/product_inf ... ts_id=1680. At this price I can already afford to get to know it better.

I hope it's not a hint, but the serial I received ends in "HAHA-CACA". Seriously.

Your thoughts / experience on collaboration?

How I collaborate with a remixer on an EDM project while retaining some say over the outcome? (For quality control.)

If I just sling a song's stems up onto Splice.com or similar place, if someone else creates a really awful remix and posts it on youtube/etc., I'm up the creek without a paddle, no?

Is it called a stick roll?

Drummers sometimes beat sticks together for a count-in. I like the "snap" this makes, short and to the point. What is it called when they play a whole rapid-fire pattern with just this snap? I tried to search for "stick fill wav" and "stick roll wav", the Web wasn't ver...

Re: Which company did Ableton license the factory samples from?

OK, just answering my question, since I found the answer now. Live's orchestral sounds (strings, brass, etc.) came from Sonivox, while the Session Drums sounds are from Chocolate Audio. Also, by the way, Analog, Collision, Electric and Tension came from AAS. (Applied Acoustic Systems.) (Should have ...
