Try recording to a new audio track instead.

Ctrl + 1 decreases,

Ctrl + 2 increases,

Did you reset fades on clips before consolidating?
Might be clicks at transition points.

Try putting a UTILITY device on the track(s) and adjust volume via that.

Assign all your groups to a separate audio track which is assigned to master. When you mute that audio track all that will go to master is the track assigned to master.
