But if you're strictly going for bang for buck, you shouldn't get a laptop. 1200 $ will get you _extreme_ CPU power if you're building your own desktop workstation. However, if your main aim is not bang for buck and y...

Re: New Machine/Starting Over With Live for DJ/Producer

Both replies so far have hit the nail on the head as far as my concerns. I feel like I should clarify... Does anyone have a PC laptop purchased recently that they feel blows away the 13" 2011 MBP in terms of value for the sub $1200 price point? Envy 14 or possibly Lenovo Ideapad series can be h...

New Machine/Starting Over With Live for DJ/Producer

First My Budget: -/+ $1200 US I was recently Burglarized, my modest home studio is gone for the most part. While this is an experience that I should have seen coming, I did not. So basically I am starting over. Thankfully I still have most of my purchased music and samples, and most of the Software ...

the very pleasing act of re-organizing the studio (again! - for the umpteenth time) and thus wringing out even more creative power from the same set of equipment. thank god I'm not the only one!!! hello brotha! there seem to be at least two kinds of sounding better: sounding better in a way that inspires you to play/write better stuff, and sounding better in a way that's meaningful to the audience. while every little bit of better sound helps (in terms of audience appreciation), i think the more meaningfu...

Re: gear whore and the synths of today

with todays softsynths are they really capable of make all the sounds we need today? whats ur view on this? This very question came up in conversation last night. There were probably 5 of us that produce, or at least try our best. This is another one of those topics that gets the nerds in a frenzy....

Now I'm not sure you can call Reason4 a plug-in with a straight face, but I think it has attempted to tackle the issue in the form of the new Regroove mixer. I don't have a lot of experience with it yet, but I think you might find it more useful than I have so far. I'm one of the people who like the...

I'm on my third set of monitors. First two pair were Alesis M1 Actives, I then added a Rokit RP-10s sub, then the second pair died on me... Now I've got a pair of KRK Rokit 5s matched with the Sub and I am very, very pleased with the sound. Probably within your budget as well. The Sub is really incr...

Missing Sounds, false reports, clicky crackles and the rest

My word. Loved my performance in Live 6, my Remote SL 25 worked great, everything worked as it should... Live 7 comes around. Looks so sexy... great improvements in theory... Now I have live telling me that I have missing files, yet it says there's nothing missing, all of my projects can't seem to r...
