Nevermind, couldn't wait for an answer. I installed Live 6.0.10 and the problem is solved. It runs nice and easy, very smooth!
So in conclussion for this one, Live 5.02 doesn't run at all in the computer config descrived above. It probably has been stated in some other place before, but hopefully ...
