i hate to say it, but I've been using a cheap Creative Soundblaster Extigy for years now. It's not even USB 2 (I don't think). With ASIO4ALL, my latency is in the 5 ms range. Now, I'm not recording INTO the soundcard, so there is that. But for regular MIDI into my software, it works just fine, and w...

Personally, I don't think it would realistically be possible to get a new president who could be worse than the one we've got right now. So, Hillary, Barak, Forrest Gump, it doesn't matter - let's just get the new one in and the old one OUT. McCain seemed alright for a while there, until he conspicu...

Of course they did. U Can't Touch This is a direct sample from Superfreak and "in the case of M.C. Hammer's "U Can't Touch This," which repeats a portion of music from... Alright. Well, I did say I wasn't a lawyer. And while I didn't explicitly say so... ok, so I'm a pretty substanda...

IANAL, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But as I understand it, only melodies are copyrightable. "Grooves" are not, nor are chord progressions, etc. This is why someone can take a drum and bass line and completely lift it out of your song, and there isn't a thing you (or anyone else...

I'm a Reason user, and a very happy one. I also use Live (although, sadly, not as much as Reason). As much as I like Reason, what those GC salesmen are doing is pretty unprofessional. I mean, sure, it IS their job to sell stuff, but once you say you're not interested they ought to back off. They cer...

Boston's first album (creatively titled "Boston") has to be in there somewhere. I swear, everyone I know owned that one at some point or another. With The Beatles it's kind of hard to guess. The "White Album" was certainly popular, but so were all the others. I'd certainly guess ...

How limited should trial versions of software be? Exactly as limited as the company that wants to sell it thinks it should be. C'mon. It's up to them to decide how badly they want to sell their software, and how to go about doing it. If they limit the trial versions to the point that it affects sal...

Gary Numan - are friends 'electric'? Living in a small semi-rural town in the late 70's, about all I heard was either disco, "Top 20" radio, country, or what passed for hard rock at the time (i.e., Blue Oyster Cult, Styx, Kansas, etc.). So, in 1979, Numan's music was so unlike anything I'd...

I'm on Linux now, so I use The Gimp, but back in my PC days I really liked Paint Shop Pro. Does nearly everything Photoshop does, but for 1/10th the price. Very good user interface, as well.

Reaktor 4. It was like the software version of a demolition derby - constant endless crashes.

Reaktor 5 is significantly better. In fact, I've never crashed version 5 once.

The people that I think of as "real" musicians - those who make music because they'd go crazy if they didn't, and care less about the money than about the music itself - will keep making music just like they always have. Those people HAVE to produce music. It's part of who they are. The pe...

Partitioning in Linux is a piece o' cake. I use Linux as my main system (I have a Windows machine as well, but that is dedicated to JUST music software) so I know it well. In fact, I just repartitioned my drive last weekend. First, you really need a Linux bootable CD. I recommend MEPIS (http://www.m...

There IS a single post on the forum at www.moogmusic.com that says he's dead as well. However, I can find no other information anywhere on the web from any kind of reputable source that confirms it. He WAS diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor this spring. But I'm quite skeptical at this point th...
